Moving from out of the country, I found Youngstown State to be a very welcoming community. On-campus activities are very interesting and different, so you have a chance to get involved. Staff and students are always nice and understanding. Would definitely recommend this school!
Sometimes it seems like they prioritize sports before anything else, cutting funding to other departments who need them. Funding is, in general, not very much.
I love the community YSU creates especially when you join an organization. The friendships that I have developed are ones I will have for the rest of my life.
I do not like that not many food options stay open late. This restricts the nightlife on campus which YSU does not currently have compared to other universities.
Youngstown State University is honestly a very up-and-coming area under its new leadership with an actual plan. The campus is very safe due to heavy patrolling and the academic life is rigorous. I do have to warn anyone interested, on on-campus dining is not the way to go. It is so much better to cook your own food or visit the excellent restaurant options just off-campus. Parking is also kind of a hassle for dorm living. The academics and the lively social scene really make up for it!
Again, the food on campus and parking. It's a good hike around campus no matter where your classes are but it's not too bad from any given point. Unless you're a math major living in the honor's dorm. Then you have a good hassle to do. The only other thing to complain about would be that the school does brownouts during the summer which DO shut off the air conditioning. It will be hot. Be prepared to study off-campus.
YSU has been a great experience so far. It is a great and comfortable atmosphere. I enjoy the people and professors. Everyone is very helpful and kind. I am excited to continue my education here.
I like everything about YSU so far, besides the cold Ohio weather!
Youngstown State University is an affordable school with great science programs and large availability of clinical and job experience. The university also gives you the ability to earn money by working at the school during your breaks with very flexible hours. They also connect you with employers in your field and have great support from professors and other resources.
If you are a commuting student the parking availability is very limited.
