The University of California, Merced is a new school with lots of potential in research and STEM fields. The small student body allows lots of research potential and the opportunity for close connections with professors and instructors. With the upcoming medical school that will be built near UC Merced, I cannot wait to experience more of the changes of UC Merced that will give amazing opportunities to students from all around Central Valley.
A common dislike about UC Merced is the location that the school stands. Merced is a mostly rural town with limited activities for young college students.
I am currently a first-year and have little experience, but I have loved living on campus at UC Merced. The education is the same you get at any other high-ranking college. The student life is pretty great since they try to engage students on campus with events and clubs.
As mentioned, before they sometimes have problems with their food. They have said this is due to supplier chain issues, but I would want to see better quality food. We pay thousands of dollars to be fed poorly handled food.
The campus is super new! There are tons of opportunities for tutoring and academic help.
The dining center hours are not great and the meals are small. Bring snacks!
I love that it was a small campus so it was not scary to get lost. I loved having small classes where you get that interaction with your professor. I loved how modern the campus was and how friendly everyone is.
The weather can be too hot or too cold.
UC Merced has great academics, lots of research opportunities, and a beautiful campus. In addition, the social life at this school is great, with a very diverse student body and a wide variety of clubs and organizations that students can join.
There aren't many on-campus food options. Students can pay for a meal plan but the dining hall food isn't great. There are also food trucks students can buy food from, but they are pretty expensive.
Depending on your education. Merced is all about the sciences but there is nothing to do after classes every pretty much goes their regular home over the weekend and other students stay locked up in their dorms sadly.
It's OK for certain students.
