What is the average cost of attendance for University of New Mexico?
University of New Mexico-Main Campus
Hello Alexa, The answer depends on if you are paying resident or nonresident tuition. Take a look at this page that has a breakdown of actual and estimated costs. Keep in mind that tuition/fees and room/board are actual numbers and the other amounts are estimates that you would not necessarily pay to the university. The goal with this COA is to provide a total budget tool for your first year. http://admissions.unm.edu/costs-financial-aid/index.html

What is the Lobo First Year promise?
University of New Mexico-Main Campus
Hello Iliana - The Lobo Promise is a commitment by the University rather than a single scholarship. Qualified first-time freshmen who have graduated from a New Mexico high school and have an annual family income of $50,000—roughly the state’s median family income—or less will have base tuition and fees for full-time enrollment covered for the 2022-23 academic year. The commitment includes most forms of aid and if the student is still underfunded, UNM will make up the difference. https://promise.unm.edu/.

WHAT I LIKED

The cost is inexpensive if you become a resident and apply for the lottery scholarship which will be with you. However, the scholarship will be gone if you receive a GPA of 2 or lower during a year.

WHAT I didn’t LIKE

How all the building of respective majors and teachings are very close together. It will only take you one to three minutes to get from point a to point b.

WHAT I LIKED

I was older than the average engineering student at UNM and had less than a good time both in general and academically.

WHAT I didn’t LIKE

The chemical engineering department is small. There were only about 9 students in my graduating class so not all of the required classes were offered every year.

WHAT I LIKED

Honestly, UNM is the friendliest place ever. you get the opportunity to expand your knowledge and extracurriculars every day since there’s always something going on on campus. Lots of cool events and cool people. One thing I don’t like is that it’s in Albuquerque where all the crimes happen, so I don’t feel safe every day, but UNM always ensures security.

WHAT I didn’t LIKE

I don’t like how unsafe it is, considering it residing in a city where a lot of crimes happen

WHAT I LIKED

I like that there is a ton of diversity at UNM, and there are lots of opportunities to innovate in the field you go into.

WHAT I didn’t LIKE

The university is located in a sketchy area, so you definitely need to visit before you come to get your bearings. I also think that there is a lot of city life missing from the experience because of the location, but I still would recommend UNM because of its great opportunities, academics, culture, etc.

WHAT I LIKED

So many professors at UNM genuinely care about their students and will find opportunities for them that are amazing. Just last week one of them sent me an internship opportunity in Washington DC! The professors care and are good at their job, which is the #1 thing for me

WHAT I didn’t LIKE

The dorms aren't great. I know giving everyone a bathroom is expensive, but I really don't like the communal experience
