Senior year of high school is a time of stress, excitement, decision-making, and many life changes as one prepares for adulthood.
This time can be overwhelming for any student, but especially for students in foster care who are getting close to aging out of state care. Being thrust into adulthood at such a young age with very little support system to fall back on can be daunting and can make it difficult to think about or pay for college.
This scholarship seeks to uplift and guide students who are facing the difficult journey of going through the foster care system.
Any high school senior who is a North Carolina resident may apply for this scholarship opportunity if they are currently in foster care or if they’re a ward of the state.
To apply, tell us how your experience in foster care has impacted you, what your next steps are after high school, and how this scholarship will help you achieve your goals.

Award checks will be sent to the financial aid office of the winner's academic institution or future academic institution in their name to be applied to their tuition, and in the name of their institution (depending on the school's requirements). If the award is for a qualified educational non-tuition expense, we will work with the winner directly to distribute the award and make sure it goes towards qualified expenses.
Before we award the scholarship, the winner will be required to confirm their academic enrollment status. Depending on the circumstances, verification of Student ID and/or their most recent transcript will be required.
