Many people struggle with their mental health, yet there is still a significant stigma around mental illnesses.

More than 57% of adults who have a mental illness do not receive treatment for it. While there are many factors that affect whether or not people receive treatment, fear of judgment plays a large role.

This scholarship aims to support students who are interested in pursuing careers in mental health and fighting the stigma around mental illness.

Any high school senior who is interested in a career in mental health may apply for this scholarship. First-generation college students and students from historically excluded backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.

To apply, tell us about yourself and how you hope to make an impact on the world through your career in mental health.

Let me start off by saying my heart goes out to those who struggle and lack mental and physical stability because I myself, have struggled with poor mental health. One of my greatest strengths is being able to empathize with others and give exceptional advice. For this reason I believe that I would make a very good psychologist and want to show that, starting by helping others at school. While taking part in food donations for the homeless I noticed that many of them were mentally unstable, needed counseling, or struggled with some type of drug addiction . That is when I knew I wanted to be a psychologist and help those with mental illnesses and those who are experiencing tough or traumatic times. I consider myself to be an empath so it is easy for me to understand someone's situation. I myself have suffered with depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts. So it is easy for me to sympathize with others who have or who are currently going through the same thing. The way I overcame these illnesses was by having someone to talk to and get me through these rough periods. Having good mental health is so vital, we can not function properly if we don´t make mental health a top priority. I want to help others with there mental health by being a a listening ear and by bringing positivity and encouragement into their lives, because some times that is all people need. If selected for this scholarship, I will continue to apply the same diligence to my studies as I have to this point, prioritizing education and service to others, and will represent your organization well during the rest of my senior year of high school and beyond. Please accept my sincere appreciation for your consideration.
