Playmakers Nashville x Athletes Scholarship Essay – Trinity Douglas-Wilson Sports have always been more than competition to me. They are a space where discipline, leadership, and confidence are built. As a competitive dancer, I have experienced firsthand how athletics bring people together, push individuals to grow, and create opportunities for young women to express themselves and lead. Because of these experiences, I have developed a strong interest in pursuing a career in the sports industry where I can combine my passion for athletics with my academic goals in business and accounting. Being involved in competitive dance has taught me many lessons that extend far beyond the stage. Dance requires dedication, teamwork, and the ability to perform under pressure. Through years of practice, competitions, and collaboration with teammates, I learned how important organization, planning, and leadership are to a successful team or program. Behind every athletic performance is a group of people managing finances, coordinating events, promoting athletes, and ensuring organizations run smoothly. Seeing how much work happens behind the scenes sparked my interest in the business side of sports. In college, I plan to major in Business Administration with a focus on Accounting. My goal is to work within the sports industry in a role that helps organizations grow financially while also supporting athletes and programs. Sports organizations depend on strong financial management, sponsorships, budgeting, and planning in order to provide opportunities for athletes. I hope to contribute to this process by helping sports teams, programs, and organizations operate successfully and continue expanding opportunities for young athletes. Another reason I want to pursue a career in sports is because representation matters. Young women should be able to see themselves not only as athletes, but also as leaders, executives, and decision makers within the sports industry. Organizations like Playmakers Nashville are inspiring because they create space for women to connect, grow, and support one another in sports careers. Seeing women uplift each other in an industry that has historically been male dominated motivates me to be part of that progress. I also hope to advocate for young female athletes who may not always feel supported in pursuing sports related careers. Many young women grow up believing that their role in sports ends after they stop competing. I want to help change that narrative by showing that there are many paths within the sports world including business, marketing, management, analytics, and leadership. Through my future career, I hope to help create more opportunities, mentorship programs, and support systems that encourage young women to stay involved in sports beyond their time as athletes. Community and connection are also very important to me. Sports have always created a sense of belonging in my life. Whether it is working together during practices, supporting teammates during competitions, or celebrating achievements together, sports bring people together in a powerful way. I hope to build a career that contributes to that same sense of community while helping organizations grow and thrive. Pursuing a career in the sports industry is not only about my personal goals. It is about creating opportunities for future athletes and continuing to strengthen the presence of women in sports leadership. With my passion for athletics and my interest in business, I am excited to contribute to an industry that has given me so much.
