Playmakers Nashville x Athletes Unlimited Scholarship
      Winner
Playmakers Nashville x Athletes Scholarship Essay – Trinity Douglas-Wilson Sports have always been more than competition to me. They are a space where discipline, leadership, and confidence are built. As a competitive dancer, I have experienced firsthand how athletics bring people together, push individuals to grow, and create opportunities for young women to express themselves and lead. Because of these experiences, I have developed a strong interest in pursuing a career in the sports industry where I can combine my passion for athletics with my academic goals in business and accounting. Being involved in competitive dance has taught me many lessons that extend far beyond the stage. Dance requires dedication, teamwork, and the ability to perform under pressure. Through years of practice, competitions, and collaboration with teammates, I learned how important organization, planning, and leadership are to a successful team or program. Behind every athletic performance is a group of people managing finances, coordinating events, promoting athletes, and ensuring organizations run smoothly. Seeing how much work happens behind the scenes sparked my interest in the business side of sports. In college, I plan to major in Business Administration with a focus on Accounting. My goal is to work within the sports industry in a role that helps organizations grow financially while also supporting athletes and programs. Sports organizations depend on strong financial management, sponsorships, budgeting, and planning in order to provide opportunities for athletes. I hope to contribute to this process by helping sports teams, programs, and organizations operate successfully and continue expanding opportunities for young athletes. Another reason I want to pursue a career in sports is because representation matters. Young women should be able to see themselves not only as athletes, but also as leaders, executives, and decision makers within the sports industry. Organizations like Playmakers Nashville are inspiring because they create space for women to connect, grow, and support one another in sports careers. Seeing women uplift each other in an industry that has historically been male dominated motivates me to be part of that progress. I also hope to advocate for young female athletes who may not always feel supported in pursuing sports related careers. Many young women grow up believing that their role in sports ends after they stop competing. I want to help change that narrative by showing that there are many paths within the sports world including business, marketing, management, analytics, and leadership. Through my future career, I hope to help create more opportunities, mentorship programs, and support systems that encourage young women to stay involved in sports beyond their time as athletes. Community and connection are also very important to me. Sports have always created a sense of belonging in my life. Whether it is working together during practices, supporting teammates during competitions, or celebrating achievements together, sports bring people together in a powerful way. I hope to build a career that contributes to that same sense of community while helping organizations grow and thrive. Pursuing a career in the sports industry is not only about my personal goals. It is about creating opportunities for future athletes and continuing to strengthen the presence of women in sports leadership. With my passion for athletics and my interest in business, I am excited to contribute to an industry that has given me so much.

      YOU GOT IT GIRL SCHOLARSHIP
Being a “You Got It Girl” means showing up for yourself and others even when things get difficult. It means pushing through barriers, staying committed to your goals, and believing in your ability to succeed no matter the circumstances. As a female athlete, competitive dancer, and leader, I believe I represent the YGIG mindset because I have faced challenges while still continuing to grow, lead, and inspire others around me. Throughout high school, dance has been a huge part of my life. I am a competitive dancer, and through this experience I have learned discipline, confidence, and leadership. Dance is not just about performing on stage. It is about teamwork, dedication, and representing something bigger than yourself. I began competing because I wanted to challenge myself and be part of a community of strong and talented dancers. Over time, my hard work and commitment helped me grow into leadership positions where I encouraged and supported others. Being in a leadership role taught me how to motivate my teammates, stay organized, and lead by example. I always wanted to make sure the people around me stayed focused, practiced consistently, and believed in themselves. Seeing my teammates grow and succeed alongside me has been one of my proudest accomplishments. Like many athletes, my journey has not always been easy. There have been moments where balancing school, leadership responsibilities, and dance felt overwhelming. There were times when practices were exhausting, competitions required long hours of preparation, and expectations felt high. However, instead of letting those moments stop me, I used them as motivation. I reminded myself why I started and what I wanted to achieve. Those challenges taught me resilience and mental strength. I learned that setbacks are not failures. They are opportunities to grow stronger and become a better version of yourself. Every difficult moment helped me develop the determination and mindset that a “You Got It Girl” represents. One person who inspires me deeply is my mother. She has always been someone I look up to because of her strength, determination, and support. No matter what obstacles she faces, she continues to push forward and provide encouragement for me to pursue my dreams. Watching her work hard and remain positive has shown me the importance of perseverance and dedication. She reminds me that success does not come easily, but with hard work and belief in yourself anything is possible. Her influence motivates me to continue striving for excellence in both my education and athletics. Receiving the YGIG Scholarship would be an incredible opportunity for me as I prepare to continue my education in college. I plan to major in Business Administration with a focus on Accounting because I want to build a successful career that allows me to grow professionally while also helping others. As a student from a low income background, financial support like this scholarship would make a meaningful difference in helping me afford school expenses, dance gear, travel, and other costs that come with being a student athlete. It would also motivate me to keep pushing toward my goals while representing the values of determination, resilience, and leadership. Sports have given me more than just skills. They have given me confidence, friendships, and a strong sense of purpose. Being an athlete has taught me how to overcome obstacles, support my teammates, and continue striving for greatness even when things get difficult. That is what being a “You Got It Girl” means to me. It means believing in yourself, lifting others up, and refusing to let challenges define your future. As I continue my journey into college and beyond, I hope to inspire other young female athletes to pursue their dreams with confidence and determination. With the support of the YGIG Scholarship, I will continue working hard, representing women in sports, and proving that no matter where you start you can achieve something great if you keep pushing forward.
