I have chosen to pursue nursing because it combines my passion for helping others with the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in people's lives every day. Nursing is a profession built on compassion, critical thinking, advocacy, and service. Throughout my life, both my personal experiences as a patient and my experiences working in healthcare have shown me the profound impact nurses have on patients and families. Those experiences inspired me to pursue a career where I can provide the same support, comfort, and care to others. My desired specialty is pediatric nursing. While I initially considered critical care nursing, I have become increasingly passionate about working with children and their families. Children often enter healthcare settings feeling frightened, confused, and vulnerable, while parents are frequently overwhelmed and uncertain about their child's condition. I want to be a nurse who helps ease those fears by providing not only excellent clinical care but also reassurance, education, and emotional support. I believe pediatric nurses have a unique opportunity to positively influence both their young patients and the families who love them. My interest in nursing is deeply connected to my own healthcare journey. I have lived with Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1) and epilepsy for most of my life. These conditions have required ongoing medical appointments, testing, and monitoring throughout childhood and adulthood. More recently, I have undergone evaluations and scans related to an optic nerve tumor. Growing up with chronic medical conditions gave me firsthand insight into what it feels like to be a patient and helped me develop empathy for others facing health challenges. During difficult moments, the nurses who cared for me often made the greatest difference. They took time to explain procedures, answer questions, and provide comfort when I felt anxious or uncertain. Their compassion inspired me to pursue a career where I could offer that same level of care to others. My commitment to service has also been shaped by my family. My father served in the United States military and is now a 100% disabled veteran. Watching his perseverance, sacrifice, and dedication throughout my life taught me the importance of resilience and serving others before yourself. His example has influenced both my character and my career goals, reinforcing my desire to enter a profession centered on helping people during their most challenging times. In addition to attending nursing school, I have gained valuable healthcare experience as a Patient Care Technician. Working directly with patients has strengthened my communication skills, increased my confidence in providing care, and reinforced my passion for nursing. These experiences have shown me that nursing is about much more than treating illness. It is about building trust, advocating for patients, and helping individuals feel respected and supported. At this time, I do not have specialized training in stoma or ostomy care, but I am committed to lifelong learning and professional development. I look forward to expanding my knowledge and skills throughout my nursing career as opportunities arise. Ultimately, my goal is to become a pediatric nurse who provides compassionate, patient-centered care while advocating for children and their families. Through my education, personal experiences, and dedication to service, I hope to make a lasting difference in the lives of the patients I have the privilege to care for.
