A designated 501 c3 nonprofit, EverGreen Adventures facilitates outdoor adventures and community programs for the chronic illness community and caregivers. Co-founders Tara and Jonathan Stewart spent years discussing different ideas for a nonprofit. A type 1 diabetic since a young child, Jonathan found being outside was beneficial to his blood sugar and mental health. The outdoors also provided the couple a place to rejuvenate and connect, through camping, hiking, mountain biking, trail running, fly fishing, and skiing. After years of continued health struggles, Jonathan was also diagnosed with colitis and sarcoidosis, ultimately resulting in the removal of his entire colon and later a pacemaker to assist in cardiac related symptoms. The Trails of Service scholarship fund was established to recognize the dedicated service of their respective families, and support the future of nursing across the country. Those who choose nursing share Jonthan and Tara’s learned values of compassion, service, and care.
