Going to Clark Atlanta university allowed me to have experiences that I will cherish forever. I don’t regret going to Clark Atlanta university by any means. However, there are many things they can handle better such as financial aid, covid, professionalism and timeliness.
Future students biggest thing to know is to attempt to have your financial aid ready before you come each semester because if not, you will be waiting on phones and in lines for hours.
The experience you get at CAU is what you make it, but the professors and staff really elevate that experience for me. Upperclassmen as well, we all really look out for each other and it's a very family-oriented campus. I love that if I need just about anything anybody is willing to help. On top of that, we have never-ending flows of internships and job opportunities. Job and career fairs happen like clockwork around here. Especially as a Fashion Merchandising major, Clark Atlanta University is truly the best university for me!
There was not much I did not like, but I will say due to covid I have not gotten the full experience of being a CAU Panther yet. They are working on opening the campus up more, so I am looking forward to that. Another thing is weekly covid testing. I have to get tested weekly although it is mandated by the school that we are vaccinated and boosted. I feel as though weekly is excessive, but the tests do come in handy for events you may need proof of negative testing for.
Always be aware of the school you are attending because the experience might have been great for someone else but might not be great for you. Also, look up people rating the school with your major because the quality of teachers varies due to different majors. Overall good school. You stay connected with Spelman and Morehouse. Great socials events!
The food is not as good and it's mandatory you get unlimited dining swipes as a freshman. The dorms could be 10x better if they actually put in the effort.
Clark Atlanta University was the environment I needed to be in it helped me find myself, the people, the events, and the culture it all was what I needed my freshman year.
I’d say don’t expect much of ur class first year your major classes won’t happen till sophomore year.
Community-based with all the students, it's great cause there are many people from all over you can connect with and build genuine bonds but you also how to be aware because there will be people that you don't click with so just keep your distance. For the professors are okay some will do all they can to help and others won't but as long as you are focused and doing your best you will be okay.
The lack of communication through the University when it came to having everyone move in many students' rooms still weren't ready and contained mold, they waited till the last minute to inform us if we could go to class in person for the first week or just stay online. Some advisers act as if they don't want to assist you when it's their literal job to ensure you have a good transition and understanding, so stay on them ( that goes for professors as well ). Make sure that the Chair of the Department's email and room number just in case need be.
