My name is Nah'Ajia James, an honor roll and yearly "Student of the quarter" student with a 3.75 GPA, attending the Academy at Palumbo, and actively engaged in extracurricular activities and sports/sports such as cheerleading and flag football. As a senior in high school, the most important thing is leadership. Leading underclassmen in the right direction so that when they reach their senior year, they will be great leaders as well. The career path I am determined to pursue is Pediatrics. Growing up in an environment surrounded by babies and young children, I learned early on that caring for a child requires more than just meeting their basic needs; it requires patience, deep empathy, and a nurturing spirit. These early experiences shaped my belief that every child deserves a foundation of love and consistent support. As a pediatrician, my goal is to go beyond just treating physical illnesses. I want to be a guardian of their overall well-being. This means being a doctor who listens, and someone a child or teenager can trust when they need to get something off their chest. I believe that mental and emotional health are just as important as physical health, and I want to provide a safe space where my patients feel heard and valued. Looking further, my ultimate goal is to practice pediatric medicine in an underserved community. I want to be the doctor who makes a difference in the lives of children who might not otherwise have access to quality healthcare. That could mean working in a clinic or volunteering in a low-income neighborhood. Whatever path I take, my focus will always be on serving those who need it most. My education and anticipated degree in Pediatrics will be my primary tool for solving the cycle of emotional neglect as well. I do not want to be a doctor who treats ear infections or monitors growth charts; I want to ensure that I meet the needs of the children I take care of for their mental well-being. During appointments, I plan to implement mental wellness screenings for both the child and the parent. This allows me to identify early signs of emotional withdrawal before it escalates. I will use my ability as a trusted medical professional to provide resources on gentle parenting and teach mothers and fathers how to boost a child’s confidence. I also intend to create a safe space where children can feel comfortable to discuss their feelings, helping them with the self-worth that I once struggled to find. A child’s mental well-being is just as important as their physical health. By pursuing my degree, I am dedicating my future to ensuring that no child feels alone in a full house. I will put my all into becoming a pediatrician who breaks the cycle of emotional absence and helps the next generation grow up confident, both inside and out.
I would describe myself as a lively friendly, and caring person who genuinely enjoys helping others. I like to laugh, make people feel comfortable with being themselves, and bring great energy whenever I go. At the same time, I take people's well being seriously and try to be a person that others can rely on. These qualities are a big part of why I want to build a career in healthcare, starting as a Nurse, eventually becoming a Nurse Practitioner.
I have always cared about people, not just about their health but also how they feel emotionally. I believe that feeling heard and understood can make a difference, especially when someone is sick or in pain. I check on others, ask how they are doing, and try to help in any way. Whether it's listening, pushing them, or making them smile. I just want people to feel supported around me.
My plan is to begin my career as a Nurse. Nursing calls me because nurses are often the first people patients interact with and the one who spend the most time with them. Nurses don't just give medication, they build trust, explain what's happening, and advocate for their patients, especially with me being a Black woman. As a nurse, I want to be the person who treats every patient with respect and kindness, no matter the situation. I want my patients to feel like they matter.
As I gain some experience, I want to continue my education and become a nurse practitioner. Becoming a nurse practitioner will help me gain more responsibility and have an huge impact on patients' lives. I want to be able to diagnose conditions, create plans that are fit for them, and educate patients about their health in a supportive way. I believe that education is important and when patients understand their health, they can make better choice for themselves.
Through my career in healthcare, I hope to make a positive impact by not only having medical knowledge but combining that compassion. A smile, a joke, or a calm explanation can ease someone's situation and make a stressful situation more manageable. I want to bring comfortability into spaces and remind people that they are not alone.
In the long run, my goal is to help improve lives. I may not be able to change the world all at once, but by caring for people with empathy and respect. I believe I can make the world a little bit better and kinder. That is the kind of impact I hope to make through my career in healthcare.
My name is Kyleigh Reeves, and I am passionate about using my future career in health care to make a meaningful difference in the world. As a freshman in college, I will be majoring in exercise science with the goal of becoming a physical therapist. This decision was deeply influenced by my personal experiences, particularly the struggles my grandfather faced before his passing in December 2024. His journey through physical therapy showed me the transformative power of movement and the profound impact that healthcare professionals can have on a person’s quality of life.
Growing up, I was extremely close to my grandfather. He was not only a family member but one of my best friends. We spent countless hours together, sharing stories, laughing, and enjoying each other's company. However, as he grew older, I witnessed firsthand how debilitating it can be when the body begins to fail. My grandfather's physical health declined, and with it, his ability to move freely. This was heartbreaking to watch, as he had always been an active, strong man. But throughout this difficult time, I saw how physical therapy could help him regain some of his mobility. Watching the skilled therapists work with him, I realized how life-changing this form of healthcare could be. It was not just about regaining movement, but about restoring dignity, independence, and confidence. This experience ignited a deep passion in me to pursue a career where I could help others achieve the same.
As I prepare to embark on my journey in physical therapy, I am also confronted with my own personal challenges. I have struggled with depression and anxiety, particularly during the past few years. There have been days when I felt overwhelmed and unsure of my future. But I have learned that, just like in physical therapy, healing and growth take time. It’s not about instant results but about progress, no matter how small. This mindset has helped me work through my mental health challenges and has made me more resilient. I believe that my experiences with mental health will allow me to connect with patients on a deeper level, understanding their struggles and supporting them as they work toward recovery.
I am committed to using my education and personal experiences to change the world through health care. I hope to provide patients with the same hope and support that I witnessed him receive, helping them regain their strength and confidence. Beyond the physical benefits, I also want to offer emotional support, reminding my patients that they are not alone in their journeys. I am determined to show others that even in the face of adversity, there is always hope for a better tomorrow.
Ultimately, I aim to contribute to a world where people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities have access to the care they need to live fulfilling lives. My passion for health care is driven by the belief that every person deserves to move, live, and thrive with dignity, and I am committed to helping make that a reality. Through my work as a physical therapist, I hope to inspire others, as my grandfather inspired me, to never give up on their journey toward healing.I will use my future education in exercise science and physical therapy to make a lasting impact, one patient at a time. With compassion, dedication, and a deep understanding of both physical and mental challenges, I believe I can help change the world, just as health care professionals changed my grandfather’s life.
