I am currently enrolled in the Automotive Technology program at Kilgore College, where I am completing my studies and gaining hands-on experience in vehicle diagnostics, maintenance, and repair. I am proud to share that I have maintained A Honor Roll status and have been recognized on the Dean’s List throughout my time in the program. I will be finishing my final year this coming fall, and I am committed to continuing to grow both academically and professionally as I prepare to enter the workforce. Outside of my academic work, I stay actively involved in a variety of responsibilities and interests. I enjoy working on vehicles, which not only supports my education but also serves as a personal passion. I am also involved in my community through volunteer efforts, including supporting local school activities and organizations. In addition, I balance my time as a dedicated student, a hardworking employee, and a committed family member, which has helped me develop strong time management, responsibility, and leadership skills. My career goal is to become a highly skilled automotive technician, with the long-term vision of advancing into specialized areas such as diagnostics or even opening my own automotive service business. I am passionate about the automotive industry and motivated to stay current with evolving technology in modern vehicles. Through continued education, hands-on experience, and dedication, I plan to build a stable and successful career where I can provide reliable service and make a positive impact in my community. I have previously been honored to receive this scholarship, and it has played an important role in supporting my education. I would be truly grateful for the opportunity to be awarded again, as it would allow me to continue pursuing my education, complete my program, and stay focused on achieving my career goals without added financial burden.

I am a senior at Gladewater High School. Although I have not always been at Gladewater, I still call it my home. At first I was just another new kid, until I walked into the middle school band hall and skipped all 15 chairs and was sat 1st chair in their band. Everyone was confused why the new girl was there. I mean, I would be too considering nobody has heard me play at this school. Once I settled in everyone understood why I was there. As the years went by I made the all region band several years in row, the. I started advancing to area 3 years, and finally I made the all state band. I knew I made Gladewater proud being the drum major of such a great band, but I continued to push myself to be one of Gladewater’s best musicians. Making the all state band allowed me to prove to others as well as myself that I am capable of doing anything and everything I set my mind to. This year I applied to the University of Texas at Austin, Stephen F Austin, and the University of Texas at Tyler. I was accepted into all except UT Austin. I will admit, I was a little disappointed to see that I was capped at such an amazing school as UT Austin. Then I realized, I don’t need to move hours away to accomplish my dream. As fun as it would have been, I realized I already have everything I need right where I am. My final decision is to go to UT Tyler where I will study music and get my bachelors degree. This decision was not hard to make. I met one of the greatest directors my freshman year, who saw my face for just an hour every year. He not only recognized my face, but also my growing talent. At the end of our all region clinic this year, he offered to give me a private lesson. Of course as any musician would do, I scheduled a session. He explained to me I was an amazing player, and I would be a beautiful addition to their trumpet team. That is when I knew UT Tyler is where my home will be for the next 4 years. Under Dr. McBain’s direction, I plan to become a band director with hopes to make not only my family and I proud, but also to make Gladewater proud as I build the worlds next generation of musicians.
Micah Timmons
Gladewater High SchoolGladewater, TX
My name is Micah Timmons and I will be a Gladewater High School graduate on May 29, 2026! I recently committed to playing college basketball at Richland College in Dallas, Texas in the fall of 2026. Richland College does not provide athletic scholarships, so I am working hard to earn scholarships to pay for school while being able to continue nurturing my passion for the game of basketball. Playing basketball at the college level will not allow me much time to work, and I want to be able to help my parents as much as I can with my tuition. As a teacher’s kid, I understand the importance of using the resources made available to me, and earning scholarships to help pay for college expenses to help my parents is important to me. I have three brothers, so earning this scholarship will mean being able to help my parents since they have my brothers to think about also. Throughout high school, I have participated in many different activities, including Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Yearbook, varsity basketball, varsity track and field, and have volunteered at youth sports camps and Special Olympics events. I have worked two part-time jobs while attending school, being a flag football official and working as a cashier at Brookshires. I have also helped my grandfather this past year with making improvements to his home when I have the time to help. When I am not working or practicing, I enjoy hobbies including playing basketball and games with my brothers and learning about different types of animals, especially exotic animals and birds. My future goals include becoming a wildlife biologist or zoologist and playing professional basketball overseas. I have a strong interest in studying and helping exotic animals in a rescue/rehabilitation setting, especially those who have been abandoned or abused by humans. Upon completing my college degree, if given the opportunity, I hope to play professional basketball overseas. I have a desire to travel and further my education with exotic animals outside of the United States, and being able to continue my passion for playing basketball while nurturing my passion to help animals would be a dream come true for me.
