Throughout high school, I developed strong skills in hands-on learning, leadership, and community service. As an active FFA member, I participated in the Chicken Show and earned a Blue Ribbon at the Yamboree FFA Show for constructing a picnic table, demonstrating teamwork and craftsmanship. I also became a Certified Welder in Agricultural Mechanics, strengthening my technical abilities and passion for welding. In addition, I earned Adobe certifications, highlighting my digital design skills.
Academically, I maintained A Honor Roll status while working part-time at a local grocery store, building strong time-management and work ethic. I also volunteered with the Lions Club and supported my school’s Band and Choir programs, assisting with events and concessions, which reinforced my commitment to teamwork and community involvement.
Currently, I am a student at Kilgore College finishing my first year in the Automotive Technician program with a 4.0 GPA. I have also begun an internship with a local auto dealership, gaining hands-on experience in maintenance and repair.
In my free time, I enjoy working on my truck and applying my mechanical knowledge. Overall, these experiences have strengthened my leadership, problem-solving, and technical skills, preparing me to contribute meaningfully to future opportunities.

My long-term goal is to become a skilled mechanic specializing in vehicle repair and maintenance. I have always been interested in how cars work, and I enjoy solving problems and working with my hands. Turning this passion into a career would allow me to do something I genuinely enjoy while building a stable and meaningful future. To achieve this goal, I plan to attend Kilgore College and earn a degree or certification in automotive technology.
My first step is to enroll in Kilgore College’s automotive program, which is known for its hands-on training and strong curriculum. I am eager to gain experience working with engines, electrical systems, and diagnostic tools. Learning how to properly identify and fix issues in vehicles is a skill that requires both knowledge and practice, and I am ready to put in the effort to master it. By completing this program, I will build a solid foundation that will prepare me for a career as a certified mechanic.
After earning my certification, I plan to seek employment at an established auto repair shop. This will allow me to continue learning from experienced professionals while improving my own skills. Over time, I hope to take on more advanced repairs and responsibilities. My long-term vision is to possibly manage or even open my own repair shop, where I can provide dependable and affordable services to customers in my community.
A scholarship is essential in helping me reach these goals. Coming from a background with limited financial resources, paying for tuition, books, and tools would be a significant challenge. Financial support would allow me to fully focus on my education and training without the constant stress of how to afford it. This opportunity would make a meaningful difference in my ability to succeed.
I believe I am a strong candidate for this scholarship because of my dedication, work ethic, and passion for the automotive field. I have already spent time learning about vehicles and assisting with basic repairs, which has strengthened my interest and commitment. I am determined to use my education not only to build a career, but also to give back by helping others and possibly mentoring those who share similar goals.
In conclusion, becoming a mechanic is more than just a career choice for me—it is a path that combines my interests with my desire for stability and growth. With the support of a scholarship, I will be able to attend Kilgore College, develop my skills, and take meaningful steps toward achieving my dream.
Joe Ford Trade Scholarship
am pursuing a career in the automotive trade after graduation. I am currently enrolled in the Automotive Technology program at Kilgore College and am finishing my first year, with plans to complete my final year this coming fall. This field allows me to work hands-on while continuing to learn about evolving vehicle technology.
I am interested in automotive technology because I have always enjoyed working on vehicles and understanding how they function. What started as a personal interest has grown into a career goal. I like the challenge of diagnosing problems and the satisfaction that comes from fixing something correctly. With vehicles becoming more advanced, I am excited to continue learning and keeping up with new systems and technology.
I have developed problem-solving and creative thinking skills through hands-on experience working on engines and vehicles. For example, I have worked on diagnosing mechanical issues where the problem was not immediately obvious, requiring me to test different components and think through possible causes. I have also completed projects where I had to repair or replace parts, sometimes needing to adapt tools or methods to get the job done efficiently. Balancing school, work, and these projects has also required strong time management and the ability to think ahead.
My plan is already well underway. I am currently enrolled at Kilgore College in the Automotive Technology program and am finishing my first year while maintaining A Honor Roll status and earning a place on the Dean’s List. I will continue into my final year this fall. While in school, I am also gaining real-world experience by working part-time, which helps me apply what I am learning in class. I have been researching potential employers and career paths within the automotive field, including technician positions and specialized diagnostics. My goal after graduation is to secure a full-time position in the automotive industry and continue building my skills, with the long-term goal of advancing in the field or opening my own shop.
If you were to speak with an adult who knows me well, they would likely describe me as hardworking, dependable, and motivated. They would say that I take my responsibilities seriously, whether it is school, work, or personal commitments. They would also mention my strong work ethic and determination to succeed in the automotive field. I stay focused on my goals, take pride in what I do, and consistently put in the effort to improve my skills and knowledge.
Tim Williams Automotive Student Scholarship
I am applying for the Tim Williams Automotive Scholarship because I am deeply committed to building a successful career in the automotive industry and continuing my education without financial barriers slowing my progress. As a student currently enrolled in the Automotive Technology program at Kilgore College, I have already taken important steps toward my future, and this scholarship would help me stay focused on my goals while easing the financial pressure that comes with higher education.
My desire to become an auto mechanic comes from a genuine passion for understanding how vehicles work and the satisfaction of fixing problems. I have always enjoyed hands-on work, and the automotive field allows me to combine technical knowledge with practical skills. There is something rewarding about diagnosing an issue, working through the solution, and seeing the final result when a vehicle is running properly again. This sense of accomplishment motivates me to continue learning and improving every day.
Beyond personal interest, I chose this career because of the opportunities it offers to help others. Reliable transportation is essential for people to get to work, school, and take care of their families. As an auto mechanic, I will be in a position to make a direct impact on people’s daily lives. I want to be known as someone who is honest, dependable, and skilled—someone customers can trust to provide quality service without taking advantage of them.
Receiving this scholarship would allow me to continue focusing on my education and training while managing my other responsibilities, including working a part-time job. Balancing school and work has taught me discipline, time management, and perseverance, but financial support would give me the ability to invest even more energy into becoming the best technician I can be.
In the future, I hope to make a difference not only through my work but also by giving back to my community. I would like to mentor others who are interested in the automotive field, especially young people who may not yet realize the opportunities available in skilled trades. I also hope to stay current with new technologies, including hybrid and electric vehicles, so I can provide modern, efficient services.
The Tim Williams Automotive Scholarship would be more than financial assistance—it would be a vote of confidence in my goals and my potential. I am determined to use that support to continue growing, learning, and making a positive impact in the automotive industry and in the lives of others.
Scott A. Ross Memorial Automotive Scholarship
Pursuing a career in the automotive field has been a natural path for me, rooted in both passion and purpose. From an early age, I was drawn to understanding how things work, especially vehicles. Whether it was watching repairs being done or learning the basics myself, I found satisfaction in diagnosing problems and bringing machines back to life. That curiosity has since developed into a clear career goal: to become a skilled automotive technician who can provide reliable, honest service to others.
I am currently enrolled at Kilgore College, where I began the Automotive Technology program in the fall of 2025. Since starting the program, I have dedicated myself to both my academic and hands-on training. I am proud to say that my hard work has earned me a place on the Dean’s List, an accomplishment that reflects my commitment to excellence and my determination to succeed in this field. Balancing my coursework with real-world application has strengthened not only my technical abilities but also my discipline and time management skills.
In addition to being a full-time student, I also work a part-time job. Managing both responsibilities has not always been easy, but it has taught me valuable lessons about perseverance and accountability. There have been long days where I move directly from work to studying or from class to my job, but I remain focused on my long-term goals. This balance has helped me build a strong work ethic that I know will benefit me throughout my career.
Like many students, I have faced challenges along the way. While I have not experienced a significant medical condition, I have encountered personal and academic obstacles that tested my resilience. Adjusting to the demands of college-level coursework while maintaining job responsibilities required me to develop better study habits and prioritize my time effectively. There were moments of stress and self-doubt, but I pushed through by staying focused and reminding myself why I started this journey.
My passion for the automotive industry continues to grow as I gain more knowledge and experience. I am especially interested in advancing technologies in vehicles, including hybrid systems and diagnostic tools, which are shaping the future of the industry. I want to be part of that evolution and continue learning even after I complete my formal education.
Receiving the Scott Ross Memorial Automotive Technology Scholarship would be an incredible honor and a meaningful step toward achieving my goals. This support would not only ease the financial burden of my education but also motivate me to continue striving for excellence. I am committed to making the most of every opportunity and building a career that reflects dedication, skill, and integrity
