The Jonathan Wade Lightfoot Memorial Scholarship was created to honor the life and memory of our best friend, Jonathan, who passed away far too soon.
Jonathan was a veteran, a loyal friend, and someone who was supposed to be an important part of the future of our family’s wild game processing business, County Line Wild Game Processing. For years we talked about opening our own facility, and Jonathan was always part of those conversations — he was going to help run the shop and make it his “baby.” After losing him, we felt an overwhelming pull to finally make that dream a reality.
We dedicate 20% of our profits to this scholarship fund, supporting veterans pursuing a college education in natural resource management, agriculture, animal science, environmental science, or related fields. Our hope is that it helps veterans build the next chapter of their lives while pursuing careers connected to agriculture, conservation, wildlife, and the outdoors.
Applicants must be U.S. veterans living in Texas who are currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program, and who are either studying or planning a career in natural resource management, agriculture, animal science, environmental science, or a closely related field. We are looking for someone who embodies the qualities that meant so much to Jonathan: loyalty, determination, humility, and a willingness to show up for others.
To apply, share how your own experiences with mental health, military service, agriculture, or the outdoors have shaped who you are and the career you hope to build, and upload a photo of yourself in uniform.
Jonathan left an impact on our family that cannot be measured. Through this scholarship, we hope his name continues to make an impact for years to come.
Please upload a photo of yourself in uniform — casual or official.

The application deadline is Apr 9, 2027. Winners will be announced on May 10, 2027.
Your privacy is a top priority on the Bold.org platform, and you can find our privacy policy in full here. You may opt out of communications from Bold.org at any time, and unless we’ve first notified you and gotten your consent, you’ll never receive communication from any third parties related to personal information you give us.
Award amounts per winner are designated by the donor. Check the award amount for a detailed breakdown.
The winner will be publicly announced on May 10, 2027. Prior to the announcement date, we may contact finalists with additional questions about their application. We will work with donors to review all applications according to the scholarship criteria. Winners will be chosen based on the merit of their application.
Award checks will be sent to the financial aid office of the winner's academic institution in their name to be applied to their tuition, and in the name of their institution (depending on the school's requirements). If the award is for a qualified educational non-tuition expense, we will work with the winner directly to distribute the award and make sure it goes towards qualified expenses.
Before we award the scholarship, the winner will be required to confirm their academic enrollment status. Depending on the circumstances, verification of Student ID and/or their most recent transcript will be required.
