Augustin Gonzalez Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship will be awarded in memory of Detective Augustin Gonzalez. He was a police officer and then rose to rank of detective in his 20 year career. He was a hero when he served at the World Trade Center during the terrorist attacks on 9/11/01 and spent his time there helping others.
Police officers are brave individuals who dedicate their careers to the betterment of their communities, often making personal sacrifices in order to better serve their neighbors.
Police officers have to work in challenging situations on a daily basis. Though this work can be extremely rewarding, it does come with some risks, including injury and even death. It takes a motivated and passionate person to be an effective and reliable police officer and the most effective officers are those who serve with empathy and resilience.
This scholarship seeks to support students who plan to pursue higher education in order to become police officers.
