Currently, women are outpacing men in college matriculation rates. In spring 2021, females made up 59.5% of all United States college students. The determination of these hard-working women seeking a higher education to seize more opportunities is admirable.

Despite this, women are also 44% more likely than men to refuse pursuing their bachelors degree because of the inability to afford it.

This scholarship aims to aid female students who are pursuing higher education at a Baptist college which will help them thrive and witness through career opportunities across the world. "For such a time as this." Es 4:14. Applicants can be in either an undergraduate or graduate program, but must be maintaining a 3.0 gpa. While all are encouraged to apply, preference will be given to those who are a mother, single or married, with children to support.

Winning Application

Lydia Stanley
Lancaster Bible CollegeMarkham, VA
I have two majors, Biblical Studies and Early Childhood Education. I am studying teaching because I want to have a significant impact on students. This would help my studies because I went to Clarks Summit University, but they shut down with so I was forced to transfer somewhere else if I wanted to finish my major. It was cheaper to go to Clarks Summit, and I transferred to Lancaster Bible College, which cost a good amount more than Clarks Summit. If I can get this scholarship, it will help me finish out my degree. I am pursuing a purpose, not a degree. To fulfill that purpose, I need to get my teacher certification, which means finishing college. Even though Lancaster Bible College is expensive, I want to pursue Christ, not just my degree. I want to reflect Christ when I am a teacher, and by going to a Bible College, where I can have a double major- biblical studies. On July 1st, I am going to Japan for mission work and a teaching internship. I will be there for a month and a half. I am so excited to go, but I will not be making a lot of money there as I would in the U.S., due to this, I am going to need more help with college, and this $500 scholarship will be so helpful for me. I am still so excited to do mission work in Japan, and I firmly believe that if it is God's will, he will provide. He provided me with this opportunity to be a missionary in another country, and I know if Lancaster Bible College is where He wants me, then He will provide. I want to work in less privileged areas, and not only spread the word to them, but also be there for my students. I know what it is like to feel lost at a very young age. When I was in second grade, my mother died two weeks before my birthday. My second-grade teacher knew this, and the hardship of having a family member with brain cancer, she decided to throw a birthday party for me at school and get the whole school involved. This is part of the reason I am pursuing Early Ed. I know what it is like to be the child who does not talk to anyone because of the hurt inside of me, with what was going on at home. I so badly want to help students like me who have had it rough at a young age, and be there for them as my teacher was there for me. Having missed half of second grade due to my mother's cancer in her brain forgetting to take me to school. Then, having all the staff at the school help me to get caught up, and not have to get held back. Having staff give me a stuffed animal at the time, a stuffed animal on the day of my mother's funeral. I so badly want to be like those teachers, and especially help those from less fortunate backgrounds. Although God will lead me where He wants me, my goal would be to specifically work in poorer parts of Appalachia, where my grandfather and father are from whom worked extremely hard to let me have a better life. My grandfather once told me, "Me and your father worked hard for you to have a better life, do not take it for granted." By giving this scholarship, you will help me achieve this goal.

My name is Abbey. I am going to be a sophomore at Cedarville University. My major is Middle Childhood Education. This means I will graduate with an Ohio teaching license to teach fourth to ninth grade. My concentrations are English and Mathematics. These are the two hardest subjects for children ages 9- 14 to comprehend. I chose these concentrations for that exact reason. I want to impact students in a way that they remember me when times get hard, and they remember how I pushed them to be the best they could be and showed them how to navigate life difficulties healthily. My I will also graduate with a Bible Minor. This is the main reason I chose Cedarville University because I feel that it is essential to be well-equipped with the knowledge and lessons of the Bible before going out into the world to plants seeds for the Lord. I also think it is especially important for my future profession because Middle School is when many students question their beliefs and start exploring religion. Since I will be well-equipped and knowledgeable in the Bible, I will be able to answer any questions that come my way effectively and truthfully. This scholarship will help me be able to finish my degree at Cedarville and help me to keep equipping myself to serve the Lord faithfully while also living like Jesus as an example for my students. Without this scholarship I may have to transfer to a more affordable university.

I am currently studying Elementary Education with an emphasis in Spanish at Dallas Baptist University. Growing up, the teachers in my life consistently encouraged me to do my best so that I can achieve my best. They helped me grow to be the person I am today. They taught me academics and how to serve and love others well. The Lord gave me a passion to serve children in this way as well. I gained a love for Spanish after participating in two one-week mission trips to the Dominican Republic. I also had the opportunity to return there to serve as an intern this past summer of 2022. The end goal of my studies is to gain a degree and certification to teach in a school. I hope to be a light to the children and parents that I come into contact with. I have also felt the call to overseas missions. A teaching degree will assist my entry into closed countries and interaction with the natives. Since attending DBU, I have learned much in my courses. I have learned content and techniques so that I can be the best teacher I can be. Because of family circumstances, I am paying for school myself. When I was in high school, my father was diagnosed with a liver disease which caused him to leave his job. My sister recently received a kidney transplant in January of 2022 as well. Therefore, most of our income goes to paying hospital bills and other necessary daily needs. This scholarship would greatly assist in my studies. I would be able to focus more on my academics and attain a degree instead of worrying about how I will pay for the next semester. Thank you for the opportunity to complete this application!
