Our goal

Since internationally known theatre director and playwright Nagle Jackson passed away in July 2024, we, his family, have been asked by so many people who worked with him and were his friends if there is going to be a memorial scholarship in his name that they could contribute to. We are now ready to make this scholarship a reality for three undergraduate university students with the Nagle Jackson Theatre Minor Award. Nagle Jackson strongly believed that theatre needs actors and directors who are educated in much more than theatre technique, but rather liberal arts such as English, literature, history, philosophy, and art history. If theatre students don't have a liberal arts education, Nagle Jackson once said, "They know everything about theatre except why." Therefore, the three four-year undergraduate students who receive this award will be pursuing a liberal arts degree program as well as a minor in theatre.

Nagle's humor was a gift to all. It was divine. His skill and his talent were unsurpassed. His kindness was astonishing, elevating everyone who worked with him. In rehearsal, he created an atmosphere in which the actor's souls could be free. They could be authentic to themselves and vivid in their portrayal. It was a joy to watch or be in his creations. They broke the mold when they made him!!! Thanks to his family for the opportunity to honor him this way.
