Bick Charitable Foundation Fund

The Bick Charitable Foundation was established by Marcia Bick Herman, a dedicated public school mathematics teacher who spent over three decades inspiring students in underserved NYC communities. As an educator, the donor believed deeply in the power of education to transform lives, not just academically, but emotionally and personally. Throughout her teaching career, she witnessed firsthand how financial hardship, family struggles, and other personal challenges could undermine a student’s sense of self-worth and limit their opportunities. Yet she saw how encouragement, guidance, and belief in a student’s potential could ignite remarkable success. Marcia made it her mission to help students believe in themselves, particularly those who had every reason to give up. She often stayed after school to tutor struggling students and made sure every student knew they were capable of achieving more than their circumstances might suggest. In keeping with her lifelong commitment to equity and empowerment through education, these scholarships support motivated students who demonstrate resilience, academic promise, and a strong desire to succeed, regardless of financial or personal obstacles. It honors the belief that when students are given the right opportunities and support, they can rise to meet and often exceed their potential.
