Discover the Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF), offering scholarships and support services to empower Hispanic students pursuing higher education in the U.S.

How do you join the HSF, a Latinx scholars association? HSF is a non-profit organization for students pursuing higher education and families in the United States. Providing scholarships is one of the many ways HSF helps students achieve their academic and career goals. HSF has awarded over $730 million in scholarships and provides great support services to ensure that many exceptional students can complete higher education and incentivize new generations of educated Latinos.

I became a 2022 HSF scholar, and I will explain the Hispanic scholarship fund, how to join it, and the immense benefits, such as scholarships and network opportunities, that HSF scholars gain.

About the Hispanic Scholarship Fund

Established in 1975, HSF provides scholarships and support services to ensure that as many exceptional students as possible can complete higher education and incentivize new Latinx generations to thrive.

The Hispanic Scholarship Fund provides access to a full range of resources, including career services, mentorship, leadership development, knowledge building, and wellness training.

Also, you become part of a nationwide network that you can access from the moment you become part of HSF. An excellent place to meet other Hispanic students and find valuable networking opportunities.

Requirements for the Scholarship

It's important to recognize that even if you don't receive the financial award (usually between $500 and $5000, based on your financial need), you can still become part of the scholar program and access other scholarship opportunities for HSF scholars.

The way it works is straightforward. Once you successfully complete the application process and become part of the Hispanic Scholarship Fund family, you will have access to scholarships and financial help opportunities. Still, the most rewarding part is the network of HSF providing support services.

The numerous network events throughout different cities in the U.S. and the HSF partners such as Amazon, Bank of America, Goldman Sachs, Accenture, or Delta (just to name a few) give HSF scholars invaluable information, mentorship, and career opportunities. For example, I was a 2022 HSF scholar, and after graduating in 2024, I was invited to a professional opportunity to launch a career in underwriting with the top 25 healthcare companies, including Kaiser Permanente.

Another opportunity HSF Scholars receive is workshops. Bank of America offers 'The Academy, Customer Interactions' virtual workshop, where you can interact, learn, and network for banking career services opportunities. In addition, companies like Disney offer HSF Scholars webinars on how to become Disney Interns.

If you want to explore more resources to successfully complete your college journey, I recommend frequently applying for scholarships on platforms like Bold.org.

How to Apply for the HSF Scholarship Fund

To enhance the likelihood of exceptional students receiving an HSF scholarship, I encourage students to:

  • Maintain a strong GPA and actively engage in extracurricular activities. Read this guide to understand how to calculate your GPA if you don't know what your GPA is.
  • Craft a compelling essay that reflects your personal experiences and goals.
  • Secure strong recommendations from mentors who can attest to your character and achievements.

Once more, follow the previous steps to complete the application successfully. It was a smooth process for me when I applied (once I gathered the materials needed to complete the application). One piece of invaluable information is to ask for a letter of recommendation as soon as you can to keep up with the deadlines. If you want more information, we have gathered all the necessary tips about letters of recommendation.

After signing up on the HSF website, you can upload your materials and complete your profile. The process is simple, and you can see the percentage of completion as you add your information. Your profile doesn't need to be completed in one sitting.

The website's services include deadline reminders, an inbox with recurring alerts, and network event information. You can choose to attend in person or virtually.

I personally liked how I met other HSF scholars recipients through LinkedIn who are now working for great corporations. I can see how they are doing, and they have always been communicative, supportive, and helpful.
