My everything cannot simply be described by words, but by anecdotes. Growing up and attending Repetto Elementary, there was always this nice warm and fuzzy vibe that the students and teachers gave off. This one, extraordinary place that I barely knew of, would be the one thing that changed my life. Every little thing that happened, whether it be winning the imagination machine award, talking with the teachers, or even winning citizen of the month, those small minuscule events helped shape who I am today, and so I can proudly say, this is my everything.

Now this is a trick question. What is everything to me? To be quite honest, I’m not entirely sure, but I can wholeheartedly say that I love food. Food is something that never lets me down. Feeling sad? Grab some ice cream. Boring day? Have a snack. Need a little pick me up? Get some drive thru. Food is so versatile. The amount of options you have to choose from is unlimited and I like that. I can spice up my dish if I’m feeling frisky or tone it down a bit. Food is simply an unexplainable joy.

Chess is truly a work of art; the players are the artists and the board is the canvas. My love for the game started when my friend beat me in chess. This was when I wanted to learn how to play chess competitively— from there I began studying chess. Although I was not the best at first, I was dedicated. I put in hours into learning important concepts. Through competing in tournaments and studying for six years, I have created a lifelong passion for the complex yet simple game of chess and achieved a peak rating of 1689.

My everything is my family. My sister and my dog are the reason why I'm still living. They bring me out of my depressive episodes and are the light at the end of the tunnel. My mom gives me advice and warns me of trouble to avoid. My dad is the one who shows affection. He makes me feel like his little girl. My dog is the one that has my whole heart and the joy in my life. My family is my everything. They are the reasons I make the choices I do.

My “everything” puts me through recurring pains of fresh blisters, peeling fingertips, and raw calluses. Yet, it is the only thing I look forward to holding after seven hours of school and long nights of studying for back-to-back tests. Why do I take care of it with my whole life? You may ask. It is my outlet for self-expression and creativity that perpetually brings color to my black and white world and never fails to give me hope for better tomorrows. It is my light in the dark, my medicine, my identity, my “everything”, my guitar.
