Some of the best students don't fit the mold. Maybe you've been working a job to help out at home, carrying responsibilities that left no time to polish an essay or pad a résumé. Maybe your school didn't have a counselor to walk you through any of this. You've had to figure a lot out on your own — and you've kept going.

That's what the Maverick Scholarship is about. A maverick makes their own way, usually without much help along the path. If your record understates who you actually are, this is for you — we're looking to invest in that potential.

Any high school senior from Putnam City High School in Oklahoma may apply for this scholarship opportunity. However, applicants who are first-generation college students, those from single-parent households, students who are low-income, applicants with significant work hours or caregiving responsibilities, those with limited access to college guidance or preparatory resources, and applicants facing housing instability, family disruption, or other major hardship during the high school years are preferred.

To apply, tell us something about a situation that has impacted you, what you’re working towards, what your goals are, and when you pushed yourself or grew.
