Nursing is more than just a career path to me, it is a calling shaped by my personal experiences, values, and deep desire to help others. My passion for nursing began with my grandmother’s illness. Watching her suffer was heartbreaking, but what stood out to me was the role that nurses played in her care. They provided not only medical assistance but also compassion, patience, and reassurance. They comforted her when she was in pain and supported my family when we felt overwhelmed. Witnessing their kindness made me realize that I wanted to be that source of comfort and care for others. My journey toward becoming a nurse has already begun through my work at my Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program at my high school, Hillsboro High School. Working in a nursing home has given me hands-on experience in patient care, reinforcing my passion for the field. I have learned that nursing is not just about administering medication or following procedures, it is about forming connections with patients, understanding their fears, and making them feel valued. Every interaction with a patient reminds me of the impact that kindness and empathy can have. Whether it’s holding someone’s hand during a difficult moment or simply taking the time to listen, I have come to understand that even the smallest gestures can make a difference. One of the most rewarding experiences I have had as a CNA candidate was helping an elderly patient who had been struggling with loneliness and depression. She rarely spoke to anyone and often refused assistance. I took the time to sit with her, talk to her, and learn about her life. Over time, she opened up and started engaging more with others. Seeing her smile for the first time in weeks was a moment that reaffirmed why I want to become a nurse. It is not just about treating illnesses, it is about caring for people as a whole. In the future, I hope to contribute to the nursing field by providing compassionate, patient-centered care. I am particularly drawn to pediatric nursing, where I can support children and their families during some of the most challenging times of their lives. I want to be a source of strength and comfort for young patients, helping them feel safe and cared for in hospital settings. Additionally, I hope to give back to the nursing profession by mentoring and guiding future nurses. I know how much my own experiences have shaped me, and I want to help others develop the skills and confidence needed to succeed in this demanding yet rewarding field. Nursing is a profession where learning never stops, and I am eager to continue growing, improving, and making a lasting impact. Nursing is a career that blends science, compassion, and service, and I am fully committed to embracing all aspects of it. I look forward to dedicating my life to helping others, one patient at a time.
