Rev. Ethel K. Grinkley Memorial Scholarship
I am a high school student who discovered my passion for healthcare earlier than most people my age. Becoming a CNA while still in school has given me a unique opportunity to learn what it truly means to care for others. Balancing classes, studying, and working in a medical environment has taught me responsibility, patience, and maturity. Every shift reminds me why I chose this path: I want to help people feel safe, supported, and understood during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives.
Working as a CNA has allowed me to see the real impact that compassion can have. I have helped patients with daily tasks, listened to their concerns, and offered comfort when they felt afraid or lonely. These experiences have shown me how powerful it is simply to be present for someone who needs reassurance. I have learned that even small actions—like taking the time to explain something clearly or offering a warm smile—can make a huge difference in a patient’s day. These moments have helped me grow into a more patient, empathetic, and confident person, and they have strengthened my desire to become a nurse.
My values of love, faith, and community guide everything I do. Love motivates me to treat every patient with kindness and dignity, no matter their condition or background. Faith gives me strength during difficult situations and reminds me to stay grounded, hopeful, and focused on doing what is right. Community service has taught me that helping others is not something I do only at work; it is part of who I am. I believe in giving back, supporting those around me, and being someone people can rely on when they need help.
As I prepare to graduate high school, I am ready to take the next step toward becoming a nurse. I want to expand my skills, learn more about patient care, and eventually work in a role where I can make an even greater impact. Nursing will allow me to combine my compassion with medical knowledge so I can advocate for patients and help improve their quality of life.
This scholarship would help me continue my education and move closer to my goal. It would allow me to focus on my studies, gain the training I need, and continue serving others with integrity and heart. I am committed to becoming a nurse who makes a positive difference in every life I touch.

Some of my biggest academic and professional goals are to continue my education after high school and pursue a career in nursing. I have always wanted to work in a field where I can help others, and nursing gives me the opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives every day. My goal is to attend college, earn my nursing degree, and become a registered nurse. I am especially interested in working in a hospital or long-term care setting where I can care for patients and support families during difficult times. I have already taken my first step toward this goal by earning my Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification, which has helped me gain basic knowledge and skills in patient care.
One of the main reasons I chose nursing as my career path is because of my personal experiences. When my grandmother was sick, I saw how nurses cared for her with kindness and patience. They not only helped her physically, but also comforted our family emotionally. Watching them made me realize how important nurses are and inspired me to want to help others in the same way. I want to be someone who patients and families can trust and rely on during challenging times.
Giving back to my community has also played an important role in shaping my goals and values. Throughout high school, I have been involved in organizations like 4-H and student council, where I have participated in community service and school events. In 4-H, where I currently serve as president, I have helped organize activities and support younger members. Being in this leadership role has taught me responsibility, teamwork, and the importance of setting a good example. I have also volunteered at school events such as football, basketball, and baseball games, helping with setup, cleanup, and assisting wherever help was needed. These activities helped create a welcoming environment for students, families, and community members.
Through my volunteer work, I learned that giving back does not always mean doing something big—it can be as simple as helping others when they need support. These experiences have inspired me to want to continue serving others, not just in my community but in the world around me. Community service has shown me that small acts of kindness can have a lasting impact, and that working together makes communities stronger.
My experiences in community service have inspired me to make a difference by choosing a career that focuses on helping people. Nursing allows me to combine my passion for helping others with my education and skills. In the future, I hope to continue volunteering and serving my community while working as a nurse. I want to provide compassionate care to patients, support families, and make a positive impact on the lives of those I serve.
Overall, my academic and professional goals are centered around becoming a nurse and continuing to give back to my community. The lessons I have learned through volunteering have inspired me to work hard, stay committed to my goals, and make a meaningful difference in the world.
Losinger Nursing Scholarship
My inspiration for pursuing a career in nursing comes from both personal experiences and a deep desire to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. Growing up, I witnessed moments when my family relied on healthcare professionals during times of uncertainty and vulnerability. What stood out to me was not only the medical care provided, but the compassion and reassurance nurses offered. Their ability to comfort patients and families during difficult times left a lasting impression on me. I realized that nursing is not just about treating illness—it is about caring for people as a whole.
In addition, I have always been drawn to helping others. Whether it was supporting friends, assisting family members, or simply being someone others could rely on, I found fulfillment in being there for people in times of need. Nursing represents an opportunity to turn that natural inclination into a lifelong purpose. It is a profession that requires both skill and empathy, and I am motivated by the challenge of developing both. I want to be someone who patients can trust, someone who listens, and someone who makes them feel seen and valued.
My decision to pursue nursing is also influenced by the understanding that healthcare is an essential part of every community. Nurses play a critical role in advocating for patients, educating individuals about their health, and promoting overall well-being. I am inspired by the impact nurses have, not only in hospitals but in communities as well. I hope to use my education and training to provide quality care while also contributing to a more compassionate and accessible healthcare system.
The phrase “human touch” in healthcare goes far beyond physical contact—it represents empathy, compassion, and genuine connection. To me, “human touch” means recognizing that every patient is more than their diagnosis. It is about understanding their fears, listening to their concerns, and treating them with dignity and respect. In a fast-paced medical environment, it can be easy to focus solely on procedures and tasks, but the human element is what truly makes a difference in patient care.
“Human touch” can have a profound impact on a patient’s experience and recovery. A simple gesture, such as a reassuring word, active listening, or even a comforting presence, can help ease anxiety and build trust. When patients feel cared for on an emotional level, they are more likely to feel safe and supported. This can improve communication, encourage cooperation with treatment plans, and ultimately lead to better health outcomes.
Furthermore, the human touch extends to how nurses advocate for their patients. It means taking the time to ensure that patients understand their conditions and treatment options, and speaking up when something does not seem right. It also involves being culturally sensitive and respectful of each patient’s unique background and needs. By connecting with patients on a human level, nurses can provide more personalized and effective care.
In my future career as a nurse, I am committed to embodying this concept of human touch in everything I do. I want to create an environment where patients feel heard, respected, and cared for, not just physically but emotionally as well. I understand that while medical knowledge is essential, compassion is equally important in healing.
Ultimately, nursing is the perfect combination of my passion for helping others and my desire to make a tangible impact. By integrating both skill and empathy, I hope to provide care that not only treats illness but also uplifts and supports patients during some of the most challenging moments of their lives.

Education, to me, is more than a pathway to personal success—it is a powerful tool for creating meaningful and lasting change. I plan to use my education not only to build a stable future for myself, but also to uplift others who may not have access to the same opportunities. By pursuing my goals with intention and purpose, I hope to contribute to a society where knowledge is shared, barriers are broken, and communities are empowered to grow together.
Growing up, I experienced adversity that shaped my perspective on life and strengthened my determination. My family faced financial challenges that often made basic necessities feel uncertain. There were times when we had to make difficult decisions, sacrificing comfort in order to get by. Despite these struggles, my family remained resilient. We learned to adapt, support one another, and find strength even in the most difficult moments. These experiences taught me perseverance, responsibility, and the importance of maintaining hope when circumstances feel overwhelming.
Rather than allowing these hardships to limit me, I used them as motivation to push forward. I became more focused on my education, understanding that it was one of the few tools I had to change my circumstances. I learned how to manage my time, stay disciplined, and remain committed to my goals even when distractions or challenges arose. These lessons have not only helped me academically, but they have also shaped my character and work ethic.
Through my experiences, I developed a deeper awareness of the inequalities that exist in society. I realized that many individuals are not lacking talent or ambition—they simply lack access to resources, guidance, and support. This realization has become a driving force behind my desire to make a difference. I want to use my education to help bridge these gaps, whether that means mentoring students, participating in community programs, or contributing to initiatives that improve access to education and essential resources.
In the future, I plan to use the knowledge and skills I gain to create opportunities for others. I want to be someone who gives back to their community, not just through words, but through action. Whether it is helping a student understand a difficult concept, volunteering my time, or advocating for positive change, I believe that small efforts can lead to meaningful impact. I also hope to inspire others who may be facing similar challenges, showing them that their circumstances do not define their potential.
Additionally, I aim to lead by example. By remaining dedicated, resilient, and compassionate, I want to demonstrate that success is not only measured by personal achievements, but also by how much we help others along the way. I believe that true success comes from using what you have learned to make a difference in the lives of others.
Ultimately, my goal is to use my education as a foundation for service and impact. Adversity has played a significant role in shaping who I am today, but it has also given me clarity and purpose. It has taught me to value every opportunity and to never take anything for granted. With determination, hard work, and the support of programs like this scholarship, I am confident that I can turn my experiences into positive change.
I am committed to making the most of my education—not only for my own future, but for the future of others. By continuing to grow, learn, and give back, I hope to contribute to a world that is more equitable, compassionate, and full of opportunity for everyone.

I am passionate about pursuing a career in nursing because of a personal experience that had a strong impact on my life. When my grandma was sick, I spent a lot of time around her and saw firsthand how important nurses were in her care. During that difficult time, I watched how they helped my grandma feel comfortable and supported. Their kindness and patience made a lasting impression on me and inspired me to want to become a nurse so I can help others the same way.
Seeing my grandma go through her illness was not easy, but it showed me how much of a difference nurses can make in someone’s life. They did more than give medicine or check vital signs—they made sure my grandma felt safe and cared for during a time when she was scared and weak. I remember how the nurses took the time to talk to her, answer our questions, and make our family feel included in her care. Watching them treat my grandma with compassion and respect showed me that nursing is not just about medical skills, but also about kindness, understanding, and patience.
My passion for nursing continued to grow as I worked toward earning my Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification. Through this training, I learned how to properly care for patients, communicate clearly, and show patience in every situation. Becoming a CNA helped me understand the responsibility that comes with caring for others and how important it is to treat every patient with dignity. I learned that even small actions, such as helping someone get comfortable or offering encouraging words, can make a big difference in someone’s day.
In the future, I hope to contribute meaningfully to the nursing field by providing compassionate and dependable care to every patient I meet. I want to be the type of nurse who makes patients feel safe and supported, just like the nurses who cared for my grandma. I also want to continue learning and improving my skills so I can give the best possible care to my patients. Healthcare is always changing, and I am motivated to grow in knowledge and experience so I can better serve others.
Additionally, I hope to make a positive impact by being a strong communicator and a caring listener. Many patients feel nervous or overwhelmed, and nurses play an important role in helping them feel understood. By showing empathy and patience, I want to make sure that every patient feels valued and respected. I also hope to encourage comfort and trust between patients and their caregivers so that patients feel less alone during difficult times.
Overall, my passion for nursing comes from my personal experience watching nurses care for my grandma during her illness. That experience inspired me to choose a career where I can help others during their most difficult moments. I am committed to working hard, continuing my education, and becoming a nurse who makes a meaningful difference in the lives of patients, families, and my community.
