As the cost of post-secondary education increases, access to educational programming is becoming less accessible to marginalized groups and creates great barriers for opportunities to DREAM out loud. The Kynnedy Simone ‘I Am The Dream’ Scholarship aims to help scholars maximize their dreams of obtaining higher education.

Eligible applicants include African American female high school seniors with a 2.5 GPA or higher, planning to enroll in a two or four year undergraduate program or trade/vocational program beginning Summer 2023 or Fall 2023. Applicants must have volunteer or community service experience to apply for this scholarship.

To apply, please submit a two minute video of yourself explaining why YOU are the dream. You should be the only subject in your video, and your video should be recorded with a solid background or background with no major distractions. Please upload your video link to your application and title it as follows: YOUR NAME - I Am The Dream. An example of the video title would appear as: ‘Kynnedy Simone - I Am The Dream’.

Additionally, in a written essay of no more than 250 words, please tell us about your community service experience, school and extracurricular activities, and any additional information you would like to share.

Greetings! My name is Charlee (Reagan) Brown, and I am pleased to submit this essay for consideration for the “I Am the Dream” Scholarship. I am a qualified applicant for your scholarship because I am a true academic and athletic leader and an excellent role model whom my peers admire. My record of volunteer experience is extensive and currently includes the listed two organizations as my most recent experiences: Teen Court Conflict Resolution Center of Cabarrus County/Volunteer Attorney, Clerk, and Juror and Big Brothers Big Sisters/Mentor Volunteer. Other past experiences include The Roof Above Ministry and Operation Charlotte (through my church). In addition, I have performed community service work through organizations in my high school. As a recent recipient of The Congressional Award, I have completed over 400 cumulative hours of public service. I am a senior at Hickory Ridge High School in Harrisburg, NC. Selected school activities include the following: Student Council Officer (Treasurer), Hickory Ridge BETA Club member, National Honor Society member, National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS) member, and Distributive Education Clubs of America, Incorporated (DECA, Inc.) member. I am a Congressional Award winner (Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medal Recipient) and have previously placed first in my peer group during a regional DECA, Inc. competition. I played soccer for over 10 years for Charlotte Independence Soccer Club/Team Member and Hickory Ridge High School/Team Member. My post-secondary educational goal is to earn undergraduate and graduate degrees in Political Science with concentrations in Public Policy and Administration.
