Karen Von Bernewitz Memorial Scholarship
Karen Von Bernewitz was an incredible musician, an inspirational educator, and a devoted Christian who sadly passed away.
Karen was a middle school orchestra teacher who cared for her elderly mother in her spare time. She was an accomplished educator, mother, wife, and friend who believed strongly in community service and caring for the needs of children of all ages and backgrounds.
This scholarship seeks to honor the life and memory of Karen Von Bernewitz by supporting students who share her love for music and service.
Any high school junior or senior who is a resident of Virginia, Maryland, or Washington, D.C. may apply for this scholarship opportunity if they will pursue a two or four-year educational program in music or in the service industry (public or civil service, education, social work, medicine, fire, rescue, EMS, etc.).

Explain what you learned and lasting lessons you otherwise would not have had, were it not for this fine arts course.
2. In a minimum well-crafted paragraph, explain how you specifically intend on using these funds. In what way(s) will this financial investment not only help you but also assist in making a positive impact on others within the community?

The winner will be publicly announced on Jul 18, 2025. Prior to the announcement date, we may contact finalists with additional questions about their application. We will work with donors to review all applications according to the scholarship criteria. Winners will be chosen based on the merit of their application.
Award checks will be sent to the financial aid office of the winner's academic institution or future academic institution in their name to be applied to their tuition, and in the name of their institution (depending on the school's requirements). If the award is for a qualified educational non-tuition expense, we will work with the winner directly to distribute the award and make sure it goes towards qualified expenses.
Before we award the scholarship, the winner will be required to confirm their academic enrollment status. Depending on the circumstances, verification of Student ID and/or their most recent transcript will be required.
