The GIST is a female-founded and led sports media brand that’s leveling the playing field in sports.

Launched in 2018 by three college friends — Jacie deHoop, Ellen Hyslop, and Roslyn McLarty — The GIST is all about changing the game in the male-dominated sports industry where less than 14% of journalists are women and less than 4% of coverage is on female athletes.

In addition to their flagship newsletter, they’ve now launched The GIST Sports Business Newsletter, bringing you everything you need to know about the business of women's sports, free to your inbox 3x / week.

This newsletter is one of the few centralized places to receive updates on the business side of women’s sports. It focuses on the news (and people!) impacting the women’s sports world, and it also covers the major happenings on the business side of men’s sports (along with how those happenings will impact female athletes).

The GIST is your witty, sports-obsessed friend, perfect for anyone interested in working in sports or the business of sports, particularly women’s sports.

We’ve partnered with The GIST to create this exclusive scholarship. By applying, you’ll automatically be subscribed to The GIST’s sports biz newsletter. As a subscriber, you'll get "the gist" of what's going on in the sports business world in less than 5 minutes every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning.

The scholarship will be awarded to applicants who get the most out of The GIST. You will be a strong applicant if you:

  • Read The GIST Sports Business every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday
  • Share The GIST Sports Business with your friends

How will scholarship application information be used?

Your privacy is a top priority on the Bold.org platform, and you can find our privacy policy in full here. You may opt out of communications from Bold.org at any time, and unless we’ve first notified you and gotten your consent, you’ll never receive communication from any third parties related to personal information you give us.

What is the scholarship award?

Award amounts per winner are designated by the donor. Check the award amount for a detailed breakdown.

When will the scholarship winner be chosen? How will they be notified?

The winner will be publicly announced on Aug 2, 2024. Prior to the announcement date, we may contact finalists with additional questions about their application. How will the scholarship award be paid?

Award checks will be sent to the financial aid office of the winner's academic institution in their name to be applied to their tuition, and in the name of their institution (depending on the school's requirements). If the award is for a qualified educational non-tuition expense, we will work with the winner directly to distribute the award and make sure it goes towards qualified expenses.

How will my scholarship application be verified?

Before we award the scholarship, the winner will be required to confirm their academic enrollment status. Depending on the circumstances, verification of Student ID and/or their most recent transcript will be required.

How should I get in touch with questions?

If you have any questions about this scholarship or the Bold.org platform, just email contact@bold.org and we’ll get back to you as quickly as we can.
