Gerardo Behori Dream Scholarship
This community-funded scholarship aims to honor the life and legacy of Gerardo Behori Sipi Botau who passed away in 2024.
Born and raised in Equatorial Guinea, Gerardo honed his talents as a musician, coach, teacher, scholar, and poet. He then came to the United States where he earned his Master's degree in Latin American and Caribbean Studies and published a book of poetry entitled 'Sueños y Realidad' (Dreams and Reality). He worked for over two decades as a high school Spanish teacher where he also coached generations of students on the soccer field. Gerardo had a deep love for education in all its forms and of helping his students achieve their dreams.
To continue his work, we invite any high school, two or four-year undergraduate, trade school, or graduate student born in West or Central Africa -- who intends to use their higher education to benefit their home country/community -- to apply for this scholarship opportunity.
To apply, please submit a 3-5 minute video telling us about 1) you, your family, and your community in West or Central Africa, 2) your current or intended area of study, and 3) how you plan to use your education to give back to your home country/community. We are not looking for a professional video; we just want to see your authenticity, passion, and heart. Thank you.
