My name is America Carbajal, 22 year Mexican American college student, pursuing a career in the law enforcement field. I was raised in Mexico for the first 12 years of my life. I moved to the US in 2015 and my life was turned upside down. I worked hard to learn English and adapt to the culture. Although it was hard, I fell in love with this country and wanted to stay and go to school here. I am the first person in my family to attend college as my parents had to work from a young age and had no time for school. I try my best to work and attend school because both are very important to me. I also like to do things outside of work and school. I like to learn new languages, I am currently learning Italian. I also like to paint and do some yoga to free my mind from stress. I love spending time with family, friends and specially my cats, Suki and Stormy. My dream is to be a detective and build my career up so I can work for the FBI one day. I am working at the College of DuPage Police department as a part-time dispatcher. I work closely with law enforcement officials and have learned a lot about the field. I always try to ask questions and keep close relationships with my coworkers since they teach me a lot. I have attended college at College of DuPage since 2021 and I am in the 3+1 program with Lewis University. I will apply to Lewis University October 2025 and this scholarship will help me cover some of the tuition costs. This scholarship will also help me cover other things such as books and course materials. My mother has supported me through my college journey and I am sure she will continue to do so. I am far from my dad and my siblings but they are proud of how far I've become. Many people believe in me and that is why I will not give up. I want to obtain my Bachelor's degree and share my success with my mother and all the people by my side. After I get my Bachelor's degree, I will join the police academy and start to work my way up. I have learned that things do not come easy and everything requires hard work. I will give my career my all and fight for my dreams.
