Sonography has always been my long term goal. From the moment my sister introduced me to the field in middle school I knew it was what I was meant to do. It wasn't just the aesthetics of the field, but instead the impact I knew I would make on so many people. The one-on-one patient care combined with diagnostic scans on patients captivated me, knowing I've always wanted to work in a medical field. As time goes on, my desire for this career continues to flourish, making me so excited for the years to come.
Since the beginning of high school, I have consistently challenged myself to achieve academic excellence, striving to earn all A’s while maintaining my course load. In addition to my standard high school curriculum, I have enrolled in multiple college-level courses that demand increased time management. These experiences have strengthened both my work ethic and my ability to succeed in academic environments. My long term career goal is to become a pediatric sonographer. I am passionate about working in healthcare, particularly in roles that allow me to support and care for children during important procedures. To prepare for this, I have pursued classes related to the human body and radiology, developing a strong academic foundation in anatomy.
I am planning on attending St.Cloud Technical and Community College to obtain an associates degree in health sciences. Following this, I am hoping to participate in the 2-year sonography program that the college offers. It is known to be extremely difficult to get into, excepting 12 of 60+ applicants, the majority having a GPA of 3.9 and up. Due to this, I have taken six college classes to get a start on solidifying my college GPA, as well as practicing college-level habits in high school.
I have always been an over-achiever, juggling school, sports, work, volunteering, and relationships. Academic excellence has always been my goal, knowing I wanted to go into a career in the medical field I prepared myself for what was to come. Although I am used to this lifestyle, college is going to push these habits to the limit. With the money from this scholarship, I will have to worry less about working, and more about my academics and giving back to my community.
When I was six years old, my mother passed away from colon cancer, a tragedy that changed my family’s circumstances. Her death left my father as the sole provider for our now family of four, creating both emotional and financial challenges. Although I was young, the impact of this loss has influenced my daily life and responsibilities in every way. Rather than allowing these circumstances to limit my participation in school and community activities, they motivated me to persevere. I felt a strong responsibility to honor my mom’s memory and support my dad by striving for excellence. As a result, I became dedicated to my academics and extracurricular activities, pushing myself to succeed in both school and sports despite the challenges my family faced. My experience has pushed me to pursue healthcare, wanting to give back in the same way people have given to me in difficult times.
I’ve always been fascinated by the medical field with its intricacies, precision and the impact it has on people’s lives every day. I find surgeries especially interesting—watching a team of experts work together continuously to help patients is amazing and thrilling. The fast paced, detail oriented environment of the operating room draws me in and I know that’s where I want to be. I’d love to be part of a medical team and bring my skills and knowledge to the table to help patients. My passion for healthcare only grows and I’m ready to pursue a career in this field.
I am going to go to either the University of Minnesota or Concordia College Moorhead for Pre-Med school. I want to be an anesthesiologist assistant, and this is the first step toward that goal. I want to maintain at least a 3.0 GPA to give myself the best shot in college. This is an extremely hard field to get into, and academic excellence will prepare me for it well.
After finishing my undergraduate education, I hope to apply to a two year master’s program specifically designed for anesthesiologist assistants. This will provide me with the specific training and experience I need to be the best in the OR. I am excited about this job because it requires precision, dedication and the ability to work under pressure — which are traits I’ve worked hard to develop — both at school and in my job and volunteering.
My ultimate goal is to eventually work in a hospital as part of an anesthesiology team (one who helps save people’s lives by making sure patients have safe and effective anesthesia), but I would also be interested in working in a clinic where more unique surgeries take place. While becoming an anesthesiologist assistant is my ultimate goal, I would be willing to head to medical school in the future to become a physician (it could even be an anesthesiologist or some other type of doctor), because my passion for health care is what I’m going to follow whatever path that leads me.
I believe that I am a perfect candidate for this scholarship because of my high academic performance, my dedication to community service, and my goals for my future. I currently have a 4.1 GPA and rank in the top five of my class. Outside of school I have been a volunteer through the National Honor Society in which I have donated my time and skills to organizations such as Feed My Starving Children and the local food shelf. These experiences have helped to inspire my desire to serve others both now as well as in the future.
My family's financial situation makes this scholarship particularly significant to me. It would lessen the financial strain of attending college and free me up to concentrate more on my studies and long-term objectives. I'm committed to doing well in school, working as an anesthesiologist assistant, and having a significant influence in the medical industry. This scholarship will allow me to keep moving forward on the path I've worked so hard to forge and, in the end, assist people during their most trying times.
