Alexandra Rowan Resilience in Writing Scholarship
Alexandra Rowan was a beloved daughter, friend, and writer whose life was tragically cut short at age twenty-three due to a blood clot in her lung linked to hormonal contraception.
Alexandra’s burgeoning career ended too soon, but her talent is remembered by all who knew her. She saw writing as a beautiful way to connect with others, express one’s feelings, and craft entertaining and meaningful stories to share with the world.
This scholarship aims to honor the legacy of Alexandra Rowan by ensuring that her passion for language and storytelling continues to inspire future generations.
Any female undergraduate student majoring in English or creative writing may apply for this scholarship opportunity if she is living with a genetic clotting disorder or if she has personally experienced a blood clot before.
To apply, as noted below, 1) please share some information about your experience with a blood clot or clotting disorder to verify your eligibility AND 2) answer one of the additional writing prompts.
Eligibility Verification - all applicants must answer this question:
In 100–200 words, please confirm that you have personally experienced a blood clot or been diagnosed with a clotting disorder. You do not need to provide medical documentation or detailed health information. Just a simple statement in your own words is requested. You can share how this experience has shaped your outlook, resilience, or creative journey, but the main purpose of this question is to have you self-attest and confirm your eligibility for this scholarship.
Additional Prompt - please choose one of the following prompts:
Option 1: Tell us about a moment when writing helped you see yourself or the world differently. How has the act of writing, whether creative, academic, or personal, helped you navigate change, challenge, or growth in your life?
Option 2: Resilience often begins quietly, with creativity, courage, or curiosity. Describe a time when you used your voice or imagination to move forward, inspire others, or reimagine what’s possible for yourself.
Option 3: Show us how you rise. In prose or poetry, capture what resilience looks or feels like to you.
