Our story
This fund is created in memory of my mom, Ana Rosa, whose strength is at the heart of La Fuerza de Uno.
She raised me as a single mother and taught me, long before I had the words for it, what resilience, sacrifice, and unconditional belief in someone can look like. We didn’t have every financial advantage, but she gave me something just as important: the belief that my circumstances did not have to define the limits of my future.
My journey eventually took me to Harvard, but I have never viewed that accomplishment as mine alone. It was built on the foundation my mom created for me through the sacrifices she made, the love she gave me, and the way she kept going even when life was difficult, exhausting, and painful. She raised me alone, but she built a village around her children, and that is exactly what I want to do now.
La Fuerza de Uno is a way of carrying that legacy forward. I want students raised by a single parent or guardian to know that their family structure does not make their dreams smaller and that the work their parent has done to support them matters.
Every student helped by this fund will, in some small way, be part of my mom’s legacy too. She was a fighter, and that fighting spirit is what led me to achieve my dreams.
Our goal
I started the La Fuerza de Uno Scholarship because this mission is deeply personal to me. I was raised by a single mother in a Latino household without the kind of financial resources that can make college feel easily attainable. Through opportunity, support, hard work, and a lot of grit, my own path eventually led me to Harvard. I know how much the right opportunity can change the trajectory of a student’s life, and I also know there are many talented Latino students from single-parent households who may never feel like higher education is within reach simply because of financial barriers.
The La Fuerza de Uno Scholarship was created to help change that. Each year, the scholarship supports a Latino high school senior who was raised primarily in a single-parent or single-guardian household, demonstrates financial need, and plans to pursue higher education. There is no U.S. citizenship or immigration-status requirement.
I personally funded the inaugural $5,000 scholarship for the Class of 2027 because I wanted the first award to be guaranteed from the start. This fund is about what comes next.
My immediate goal is to raise $5,000 to fully fund the 2028 La Fuerza de Uno Scholarship so that this can become an annual source of support rather than a one-time award. Every contribution, whether it is $25, $50, $100, or more, helps ensure that another student has access to meaningful financial support as they take their next step toward college.
Long term, I would love to grow this into a sustainable scholarship fund that can support one student every year and, if the community grows around it, eventually support multiple students.
The idea behind La Fuerza de Uno is simple: one parent or guardian may have raised them, but they should never have to build their future alone.
