Our story

Arlin was embodiment of resilience! Her zest for life, home, family and love for baseball knew no bounds!!! Arlin Diaz was a beloved daughter, wife, and mother whose vibrant spirit continues to be an inspiration to many. Arlin was of Dominican and Puerto Rican descent and touched the lives of all who knew her with her warmth, kindness, and unwavering determination. Even though Arlin passed away far too soon at the age of thirty-seven, her legacy of resilience and compassion lives on. Arlin was not only a proud graduate of Kean University, where she earned her B.A. in psychology in 2010, but she was also a beacon of hope for individuals facing the challenges of epilepsy. Despite her own struggles with the condition, Arlin approached life with courage and grace, never allowing epilepsy to define her or limit her dreams. Triumphantly, she celebrated her degree in Psychology from Kean University, defying her disability with courage and grace even after experiencing a seizure minutes before walking across the stage to receive her well deserved degree!

Our goal

This scholarship seeks to honor the incredible life of Arlin Diaz by continuing her legacy of courage and compassion in supporting the aspirations of students with epilepsy.

This may sound a bit unconventional, but I didnโ€™t know Arlin. While we were searching for a resting place for my dad, we were shown a spot next to hers. In that moment, I felt a deep, inexplicable connection, as if her presence could offer comfort and companionship to my dad. It was a feeling that transcended wordsโ€”a sense that she possessed a beautiful soul, one that would resonate with him. Reading more about her has only validated those feelings and revealed even more depth to her character.
