Our mission is to honor the life calling of Karen Von Bernewitz and to, in her honor, continue to reward others that align with her values and calling. Karen was a life-long Christian learner and educator, musician, mother, and loyal friend who valued community service, the joy of expression through music, and caring for the needs of children and the elderly. Karen was a funny, direct orchestra teacher at a majority minority middle school in northern Virginia, and she especially enjoyed helping students find their callings in the world, just as Karen did teaching. Her community and family continue this scholarship seeking junior or senior students in the DC, MD, VA area that likewise are orchestra students. Scholarship seeks learners that intend on going to a two- or four-year school to study a community or child helping profession, such as education, nursing, health care, social work, or the like. Scholarship may also be applied towards music camps for enrichment for future music teachers. Scholarship, grant, award amounts may vary from $500-$2,000.
