The mission of the RollinOn3 Kentucky DBC Scholarship Fund is to honor the life and legacy of Derick “Bubba” Canty by supporting young adults who are navigating mental health challenges while continuing to pursue their education, dreams, and purpose. Derick (Bubba) Canty was a beloved son and brother who passed away on May 26th, 2017, due to a heart condition he didn’t know he had. Derick had faced challenges in life, such as being diagnosed with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia at the young age of eighteen. Many teens and adults struggle with mental illnesses over the course of their lives, which can lead to academic pursuits being put on the back seat. Through this scholarship, we aim to encourage Black and Brown high school seniors from Kentucky, Louisiana, and Texas who have been clinically diagnosed with a mental illness and are committed to attending a two- or four-year college. Our goal is to help these students who are still figuring life out, but refuse to give up, gain access to quality education and the opportunity to build quality lives.
