Mission

Gabe grew up in Richland, Ms. where he graduated RHS and was a band alumni. He loved basketball, playing his XBOX, helping others in need and being with his family and friends. All his life he fought numerous asthma attacks and food allergies. Even with his medical conditions, he lived an extraordinary life. Sadly, his short life came to a tragic end. He ate a meal that contained the components he was highly allergic to. Despite the help of local paramedics, he passed away. Gabe was an organ donor and will continue his legacy of helping others with the gift of mobility and sight.

I am truly honored and grateful to be a winner of the Gabriel Martin Memorial Annual Scholarship. Writing about my personal experiences living with a peanut allergy was deeply personal, and this recognition not only validates the hard work I put into this application, but it also reminds me that our unique stories and struggles can inspire change and awareness. Thank you for valuing my experiences and supporting my journey forward into college. It truly means the world to me.

Being an award recipient of this scholarship is an honor. Medical expenses are something that sneak up on you and can hinder your future. They are something my mother has struggled with my entire life in our single income household. I am deeply honored in having been selected for this scholarship and I would like to express my gratitude to the Martin family. Thank you so much for your support and my deepest condolences for your loss with your son Gabe.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Martin, Thank you so much for creating this scholarship in honor of your son. Being one of the winners means that I now have some the finances I need to pay for my college education. I want to get my degree in Communication Sciences & Disorders to become a pediatric speech language pathologist. This will be a great help to my future. Thank you for you generosity! All the best, Maya Paloma Lopez

Dear Robbie and Ginger, Best. Monday. Morning. Ever!!! Getting up at 5:45 this morning became less difficult when I saw the email notification that I had won this scholarship! I feel so blessed to be a recipient! (My English teacher would probably stop me here and say don’t use another exclamation mark but I am that excited I can’t help myself!!!) This generous gift you’ve given me will cover 2 months worth of my on-campus housing costs! I can’t even tell you what a relief that is-knowing that I’ve got a little time to get oriented to my college life before I must start a job to cover the other months. I will do my very best to honor this gift and your family, especially Gabe, by working hard at school. Learning as much as I can and hopefully making a big difference in the future with improvements to treat illnesses! Thank you again 1 million times!
