Late 2024, I took time to reflect deeply on my professional goals and aspirations before making any major moves. Today, I am proud to announce the first step in bringing one of my most heartfelt dreams to life. I have established a fund that I will personally contribute to, with the goal of creating a scholarship dedicated to supporting first-generation minority students pursuing their Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree. This mission is incredibly personal to me. As a first-generation college graduate who went on to earn a master’s and PhD, I know firsthand the challenges and sacrifices that come with achieving these milestones. My own journey would not have been possible without the financial support and guidance I received along the way. It is now my turn to give back and empower future social workers who share a similar path. This scholarship is about more than just financial support—it is about creating opportunities for systemic change. It is about elevating others who will stand beside me as we work to build a better, more equitable world through social work. In honor of those who shaped me, this fund and forthcoming scholarship will be dedicated to my parents, who continue to inspire me every day, and in memory of my mother’s uncle, Ernesto, and my former professor, Celina Garza. Their love, guidance, and belief in me were instrumental in helping me become who I am today. I am proud to carry forward their legacy by supporting the next generation of change-makers. m a reality.
