Mission

On behalf of my family, my mission is to give a jumpstart to young people of color & disadvantaged youth with a passion, like my father, Dr. Samuel Attoh, who immigrated from Ghana, West Africa. Receiving 3 degrees in 3 countries: Undergrad-University of Ghana, Masters-Carleton University (Canada), & PHD-Boston University (USA). Dad went on to have a career as a Professor, Chair, Dean, and Associate Provost, holding each role with integrity. He had a passion for education & it is an honor for us to carry on his legacy by rewarding those who share in a thirst for knowledge & education.

Dear Annabelle, It means so much to me to be chosen as the recipient of the Dr. Samuel Attoh Legacy Scholarship. I truly appreciate your family’s generosity and vision in supporting students like me who are driven by a love for learning and a desire to make a difference. Receiving this scholarship eases the financial challenges of pursuing my double major in Biology and Global Health at Duke University. With this support, I can devote more energy to my studies and research, especially as I work toward my dream of improving healthcare access and advancing immigration reform. As someone who immigrated from Haiti and grew up in Miami, I know firsthand the impact that education and opportunity can have on a young person’s life. I'm honored to carry on Dr. Samuel Attoh’s legacy through this scholarship. His journey from Ghana to academic excellence in three countries is deeply inspiring, and his commitment to integrity and education sets an example I strive to follow. Your family’s dedication to uplifting young people of color and disadvantaged youth resonates with my own goals to use medicine as a platform for social justice and global health equity. Thank you for believing in my potential and for enabling me to move forward with confidence. Your generosity is a source of encouragement that I hope to one day pay forward. Thank you, Angel Sajous

Thank you for the opportunity to be recognized for this prestigious award. The tenacity of Dr. Samuel Attoh is easily admirable. Being selected for this opportunity further affirms that I too am on the right track in uplifting communities of color through my work in the mental health field. I deeply appreciate your consideration!
