As a nurse for more than 20 years, I have had the privilege of caring for patients and families during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. I witnessed firsthand the profound impact that serious illness and cancer can have—not only on the patient, but on an entire family. My nursing career eventually led me to education, where I found another way to care for others: by preparing and inspiring the next generation of healthcare professionals. Every day, I have the opportunity to help young people discover their passion for healthcare and understand the difference they can make in the lives of their future patients. As a wife, mother, nurse, educator, cancer has become much more than something I have encountered professionally. I have witnessed the direct and heartbreaking impact it has had on a family I care deeply about, as well as the incredible strength, love, and hope they have demonstrated throughout their journey. The Legacy of Hope Scholarship was created from a desire to turn that experience into something meaningful. Its mission is to honor a local family by supporting high school students pursuing careers in healthcare and encouraging a new generation of compassionate caregivers. Through this scholarship, I hope their legacy will continue by helping students become healthcare professionals of tomorrow—individuals who may someday provide hope, healing, comfort, or even contribute to the discoveries that change another family's story. Their legacy becomes hope. Their story inspires the future.
