EJS Foundation Minority Scholarship
The EJS Foundation Minority Scholarship will allow me to be one step closer to attending college. My mother was a professor at two large Christian Universities, granting my sister and me essentially free college. After her sudden passing from a series of strokes my senior year of high school, the colleges revoked this privilege, and as my family never prepared to pay for college, I was not financially ready to take on college immediately after high school. Before my mother's passing, my father moved back home, so I have been able to stay home and help take care of my (then) 13 year old sister. Earning this scholarship will take my dreams of going to college to double-major in Cybersecurity and International Relations and help make them into a reality. I want to change the world and make it a safer place by studying counterterrorism and intelligence in higher university. I have been a good steward of the opportunities I have been given to serve my community, as I have helped to found a children's cybersecurity-book program which we wrote a professional paper for had the opportunity to present at the American Society for Engineering Education conference. I also was the president of the Math and Science Academy at my school, encouraging people to further explore their interests in the sciences, while also running a student organization, Sisters in STEM, which allowed us to reach a younger community by organizing monthly Zoom and annual in-person events. I have volunteered with robotics events, served on the Scottsdale Unified School District's Student Advisory Board, and was a member of the National Honors Society. Although I was heavily engaged in these extracurriculars, I also spent my summers as either a Girls State delegate or a participant of the National Student Leadership Conference for Intelligence and National Security. As a senior in high school, I worked as an intern with my school district's building services as a way to give back into the system that helped me so much. After my mother's passing, I withdrew from many of these activities to support my family during this transition. The chances I have been given are incredible and I want to continue my education and reach my full potential. I want to make a difference and this scholarship will help propel me into the right direction, reminding me again of the importance in helping one another.
