I'm Zoë Johnson, a senior graduating from high school in May 2026, intending to study Civil/Environmental Engineering in college. I have always been passionate about sustainability and making sure I and everyone around me are doing our part in caring for the planet we call home. Whether it be as small as encouraging someone to recycle the bottle in their hand or as big as teaching the school community about those impacted by climate change around the world, I have always been a voice for awareness of the consequences of our small actions. After taking an Intro to Engineering course in my high school, I saw how creating structures can be done to satisfy many different needs, and I discovered a way I could do this to help the Earth. Creating and designing feasible, sustainable designs to solve environmental problems and protect the planet is my passion, and I intend to continue on the path I am on to ensure I can do this to the best of my ability. I am not afraid to step out of my comfort zone and think outside of the box, because I know that is where the growth happens. With my powerful combination of compassion and curiosity, I will be able to fulfil my goals. I’ve learned that meaningful change doesn’t always come from some dramatic moment. More often, it begins with finding ways to make things work better—for people, and for the lives they lead.
