Bio

I am a student leader, advocate, and organizer dedicated to advancing educational equity, civic engagement, and youth representation in policymaking. I plan to pursue a career in human rights law and eventually serve in Congress, where I hope to use public policy and legal advocacy to expand opportunities for marginalized communities and ensure young people have a meaningful voice in the systems that shape their futures. I am the founder of Generation Vote Alief, a youth-led electoral justice nonprofit focused on increasing civic education and youth involvement in my community, Alief. Through this initiative, I have mobilized more than 700 young people, led a team of volunteers, organized civic education events, built partnerships with 19 local organizations, secured over $50,000 in support, and reached more than 100,000 people through community campaigns. I also co-founded and serve as Vice Chair of the Texas State Board of Education Student Advisory Council, where I authored school equity policy recommendations affecting more than 5.5 million students across Texas. My commitment to service extends beyond advocacy. As President of Alpha Active Knights, I have led initiatives including planting more than 200 trees, organizing biweekly school cleanups to support custodial staff, and coordinating programs connecting students with residents in senior facilities. Additionally, I'm President of Future Business Leaders of America, teaching business education skills. I remain committed to building stronger communities and empowering young people to lead meaningful change.

From a young age, I have been drawn to the idea of justice, fairness, and the power of law to create meaningful change. I come from Nigeria, a peripheral country where corruption, limited access to education, and systemic inequality often prevent communities from reaching their potential. I witnessed firsthand how children were denied schooling due to poverty, how women were excluded from economic and political opportunities, and how legal protections were often inaccessible for ordinary citizens. My mother and I were forced to leave Nigeria due to domestic violence, separating us from our extended family and seeking safety and a new life in the United States. Living in a low-income household in a high-crime neighborhood exposed me early to the realities of injustice. These experiences taught me resilience and a deep desire to help others. These experiences have profoundly shaped my interest in pursuing a career in law, particularly in civil rights and human rights. I have seen how the law can serve as a tool for protection, empowerment, and social change, or, in its absence, how people’s lives can be left vulnerable. As a first-generation student navigating educational and legal systems largely on my own, I learned how critical advocacy and access to resources are for individuals who are often overlooked. This motivated me to work as a policy analyst, where I focused on improving outcomes for incarcerated teens and advocating for programs that support their rehabilitation and access to education. Alongside this work, I have advocated for policy change on both state and federal levels, authoring four bills in the Texas Legislature aimed at improving equity, access to education, and protections for marginalized youth. Through these experiences, I witnessed the transformative power of law and policy to create real, tangible change in people’s lives. I realized that pursuing law would allow me to combine my personal experiences with professional expertise to protect rights, challenge injustice, and create equitable opportunities. My interest in law extends beyond personal advocacy; it is rooted in a commitment to address systemic inequities on a broader scale. I am particularly inspired by international human rights law because it allows for intervention in situations where people, like those in my home country and other marginalized communities around the world, lack access to justice. I hope to use my legal education to influence policy, ensure that laws are implemented fairly, and advocate for communities whose voices are silenced by systemic oppression. I plan to major in public policy and economics, equipping myself with the analytical and strategic skills necessary to address social inequities and craft policies that create lasting impact. The challenges I have faced--financial instability, cultural adjustment, and witnessing systemic injustice--have taught me leadership, critical thinking, and persistence. These skills will guide me as I pursue legal studies and ultimately a career where I can make a tangible impact in the lives of others. Law represents both a path and a purpose for me. It is a way to turn my experiences into advocacy, to ensure that others do not have to face injustice alone, and to create a society where rights and protections are accessible to all. By becoming an international civil rights and human rights lawyer, I aim to empower individuals, challenge inequalities, and use the tools of law and policy to build a more just world. Pursuing this career path is not just a professional goal; it is the realization of a lifelong commitment to justice, equity, and giving back to society in ways that honor the challenges I have overcome and the opportunities I have been given.
