My name is Zedric Washington, I am a senior at Parklane Academy in McComb, Ms. Community service plays a big role in my life. I am committed to taking advantage of community opportunities. Community service work has helped instill great qualities in me and has kept me focused on helping others within the community, as well as keeping me out of trouble. I am thankful to my parents for their guidance in my life, teaching me that helping others should come second nature in my life. I began doing community service when I was younger. My little league football team had us pick up trash after high school football games on Saturday mornings. I did community service work from that year on. My coach taught us to work hard on the field, and to work harder off the field. Working hard off the field meant to be a great help to someone else, whether we knew them or not. My father has been a Pastor for nineteen years, so I grew up in the church. He and my mother instilled godly qualities in me to be a servant by helping others. I do community work for the church with our Take our youth back extravaganza, where we go to houses in the community to invite parents and their children to our church to keep the children out of the streets, the outreach program, feed the needy food pantry where we fill and deliver food boxes to the elderly in the community, around Christmas time we make deliveries of basic necessities and fruit baskets for the patients in nursing homes, and I assist my dad and his deacons with Communion distribution to the sick and shut in once a month. I have participated in Read across the Parish, a reading program where I read to classroom students in elementary. I help with youth sports as a junior coach at my local school in the fall and spring, I am a volunteer at the boys and girls club of America, and I help a former football player from my school, who is now an NFL player with his summer youth and young adult football camp. I have been accepted into Jacksonville State University, and I plan to find organizations there to do community service with. I also plan to return home on my free weekends to continue assisting with the church’s outreach program, Communion, and the food pantry, as well as the summer programs to continue doing the work I have set out for. Once I receive my college degree as a physical therapist I want to open my own clinic and help patients with low income.
