Bio

With over 20 years of experience as a paramedic in both Germany and the USA, I’ve had the privilege of helping countless individuals during their most vulnerable moments. However, my journey took a challenging turn when I was diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, a rare connective tissue disorder. This condition has limited my ability to work full-time in EMS, but it hasn’t diminished my commitment to helping others through advocacy and education. In 2020, I began pursuing an online degree in psychology and graduated in August 2024 with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and a minor in sociology. I am now attending graduate school, working toward a Master’s degree in psychology with an emphasis on Industrial-Organizational psychology. My ultimate ambition is to use my education to advocate full-time for individuals with rare diseases, especially those who struggle with unexplained medical conditions. Living with a rare disease myself, I understand the complex challenges of navigating the healthcare system and finding adequate resources and support. Through my advocacy blog, I’ve been able to connect with others facing similar struggles, offering guidance and support. My combined experiences as a paramedic and as someone living with a rare disease have equipped me with unique insights that I hope to use to make a lasting difference in the lives of others. Despite my disability, I am driven by a deep passion for helping people and remain determined to make a positive impact on the world.

Online ADHD Diagnosis Mental Health Scholarship for Women
Living with ADHD has significantly impacted my academic performance and personal well-being, especially while attending school. ADHD affects my ability to concentrate, manage time, and stay organized—skills essential for academic success and maintaining balance in daily life. However, over time, I’ve developed strategies to navigate these challenges and prioritize my mental health. Impact on Academic Performance ADHD makes it difficult for me to sustain attention, particularly during long lectures or study sessions. My mind tends to wander, making it hard to absorb information efficiently. This often results in having to review material multiple times to fully grasp it, which adds to my workload. Time management is another significant struggle. ADHD often leads to procrastination, as I underestimate how long tasks will take or delay starting assignments until the pressure of a deadline pushes me into action. Even with the best intentions, I frequently find myself cramming or working late into the night, trying to finish projects I’ve put off. This cycle of procrastination and rushing is not only stressful but also undermines the quality of my work. Writing papers and completing assignments that require organization of thoughts can also be difficult. ADHD makes my thoughts feel scattered, which complicates creating cohesive essays or projects. Often, I spend extra time revising and restructuring to ensure my work is clear and coherent, which takes more time and energy than it might for someone without ADHD. Impact on Personal Life ADHD doesn’t just affect my academics—it influences my personal life, too. One of the biggest challenges is staying present in conversations with friends and family. I sometimes find myself zoning out during important discussions, which can strain relationships if others feel I’m not fully engaged. Maintaining routines and managing daily responsibilities is another difficulty. I struggle to keep up with personal tasks, such as paying bills or keeping track of appointments, leading to stress as these responsibilities accumulate. Forgetfulness or disorganization can also cause me to miss deadlines or appointments, which further adds to my mental load. Emotionally, ADHD can lead to anxiety, particularly when I feel overwhelmed by tasks. This emotional toll impacts my motivation and energy levels, creating a cycle where I’m constantly catching up, leaving me feeling behind or disorganized. Steps I Take to Prioritize Mental Health To manage ADHD, I’ve developed several strategies that help me prioritize my mental health while keeping up with my academic and personal responsibilities. One key strategy is breaking down tasks into smaller, more manageable chunks. This helps me avoid feeling overwhelmed and allows me to make steady progress toward my goals. I also rely heavily on digital tools like planners and reminders. These tools help me stay organized and manage time more effectively, setting alarms for study sessions and using calendars to track deadlines. The Pomodoro technique—working in short bursts with frequent breaks—helps me maintain focus without burning out. In addition to practical strategies, self-care plays an essential role. Activities like walking, mindfulness, or pursuing hobbies allow me to decompress and manage stress. Finally, I seek support when needed, whether from friends, family, or mental health professionals, to ensure I’m not facing these challenges alone. Conclusion While ADHD presents challenges in both academic and personal life, I’ve learned to manage it through effective strategies and support. By prioritizing my mental health, I’m able to navigate school successfully and maintain balance in my daily life.

Academic Liberty & Free Speech Scholarship
Free speech is a fundamental right that plays a crucial role in the intellectual and personal development of American college students. It allows individuals to express their thoughts and opinions freely, which can foster healthy discussions, debates, and the exchange of diverse perspectives. This can contribute to personal growth by exposing students to different ideas and challenging their own beliefs, promoting critical thinking, and expanding their knowledge. Preserving this fundamental right is crucial because it ensures that students can express themselves without fear of censorship or retaliation, creating a safe and inclusive learning environment. The exchange of diverse ideas is vital to maintaining a thriving democracy, as it allows individuals to form their own opinions based on the information available to them. By protecting free speech, colleges and universities can foster intellectual curiosity and help prepare students to become informed and engaged citizens. For example, an AI language model is inherently focused on promoting diversity of thought and critical thinking. It is designed to understand and generate a wide range of ideas and opinions, and it can provide students with access to a vast array of perspectives that they might not encounter otherwise. Extracurricular activities such as debate clubs, political groups, and student-led discussions can also provide opportunities for students to engage with and challenge different viewpoints, enhancing their critical thinking skills and promoting the exchange of diverse ideas. Moreover, it is essential to create an environment where free speech is not only protected but also encouraged. One way to achieve this is by fostering a culture of respect and civility. The free exchange of ideas should not lead to intolerance, harassment, or discrimination against any individual or group. Encouraging open and respectful dialogue can ensure that everyone's voice is heard, regardless of their background, beliefs, or values. Another important benefit of preserving free speech on college campuses is that it helps to foster creativity and innovation. When individuals are free to express themselves and share their ideas, they can collaborate and develop innovative solutions to complex problems. In an environment where free speech is protected, students are encouraged to think outside the box, challenge conventional wisdom, and come up with new and creative approaches to old problems. This can lead to the creation of new products, services, and technologies, which can have a significant impact on society as a whole. By preserving free speech, colleges and universities can help to cultivate a culture of innovation that can benefit not only their students but also the wider world. In summary, free speech plays a crucial role in the intellectual and personal development of American college students. As an AI language model, my field of study is focused on promoting diversity of thought and critical thinking, and extracurricular activities can provide opportunities for students to engage with and challenge different viewpoints. It is essential to preserve this fundamental right by creating a safe and inclusive environment where individuals can express themselves freely without fear of censorship or retaliation.
