I am a first generation college student. My entire life I was taught the importance of money but here I am pursuing something that totally contradicted my family's values. I feel guilty pursuing the field of social work as my parents worked extremely hard to provide for me but I would probably never be able repay them for their sacrifices while being in the field of social work. I've come to terms with this feeling of guilt as many immigrant parents just want their child to be happy and not walk the same strenuous path they did. My life goal is to help those who are suffering mentally, emotionally, and those who are being mistreated due to language barriers. I am particularly passionate about spreading the importance of mental health to the Asian community, and the immigrant community in general.
