Bio

My name is Zanya, and I am passionately pursuing a degree in cosmetology at Empire Beauty School. From a young age, I've been fascinated by the transformative power of hair, makeup, and nails. This passion was inspired by my mother, who earned her degree in cosmetology and has worked in a salon ever since. Watching her creativity and dedication has fueled my desire to follow in her footsteps and carry on her legacy. I am committed to mastering the art of beauty and aim to make a significant impact in the industry, just like my mom has. My goal is to not only enhance people's appearances but also boost their confidence and self-esteem through my work.

Mathematics is a subject that has always fascinated me. From a young age, I found myself drawn to the logical structure of numbers and equations. As I have grown older, my appreciation for math has deepened, and I have come to see it as an essential tool for understanding the world around us. One of the reasons I love math is because of the way it allows us to solve problems. Whether we are trying to calculate the trajectory of a rocket or balance a budget, math provides us with a set of tools that enable us to find solutions to complex problems. In this way, math is crucial for innovation and progress in fields such as science, engineering, and finance. Math is also important because it helps us to make sense of the world. It provides us with a language for describing the patterns and relationships that we observe in nature and society. For example, the laws of physics can be described using math, as can the patterns of population growth and the fluctuations of the stock market. Without math, we would be unable to make sense of these phenomena or to develop theories to explain them. In addition to its practical applications, I also love math for its inherent beauty. There is something deeply satisfying about the elegance and simplicity of a well-crafted equation or proof. It is a testament to the human capacity for abstract thought and creativity. Furthermore, math plays a crucial role in everyday life. From calculating the tip at a restaurant to figuring out how much paint to buy for a room, math is involved in many aspects of our daily routines. Even activities such as cooking and baking involve math, as recipes often require measurements and conversions. Moreover, math is a subject that encourages critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Through working on math problems, students learn to approach challenges logically and to break them down into manageable steps. These skills are valuable not just for math, but for all areas of life. Finally, math is a subject that is constantly evolving and expanding. New discoveries and theories are being made all the time, and there is always more to learn. This makes math an exciting and dynamic field that is full of potential for growth and innovation. In conclusion, I love math because of its power to solve problems, make sense of the world, and inspire us with its beauty. From the most practical applications to the most abstract theories, math has something to offer everyone. Its importance in everyday life, its emphasis on critical thinking, and its potential for growth and innovation make it a subject that is essential for understanding the world around us.

    Pro-Life Advocates Scholarship
As a young woman, my pro-life stance was formed through my own experiences and those of others around me. I believe that all human beings, from the moment of conception, have inherent value and dignity that must be protected. My experiences have shown me the importance of advocating for this cause and taking action to promote the value of all human life, especially the unborn. My journey to becoming pro-life began when a close friend of mine became pregnant unexpectedly. At the time, she was considering having an abortion, and I was torn about what to think. However, as I watched her grow and care for her unborn child, I realized that life is precious and must be protected at all stages.Additionally, I was deeply affected by the stories of women who had undergone abortions and the emotional toll it had taken on them. These experiences made me realize that abortion is not a simple "choice," but a complex and deeply personal decision that can have lifelong consequences. In order to promote the value and dignity of all human beings, I plan to take several actions and activities. First and foremost, I will continue to educate myself and others about the pro-life movement and the importance of protecting life at all stages.Furthermore, I will volunteer at local pregnancy centers and organizations that provide support to pregnant women and families. By offering practical assistance and emotional support, I hope to empower women to choose life and provide them with the resources they need to care for themselves and their children. Finally, I plan to engage in peaceful activism, such as participating in pro-life marches and rallies, and encouraging others to do the same. I believe that it is important to advocate for the value of all human life in a peaceful and respectful manner, and I am committed to doing so with compassion and empathy.Every moment of life is precious and should be cherished. Life is an incredible and amazing gift that we have been given. We should strive to make the most of our time on this earth, by pursuing our passions and dreams, and by making a positive impact on the lives of others. In conclusion, my experiences have shaped my pro-life stance and motivated me to take action to promote the value and dignity of all human beings, especially the unborn. Through education, volunteering, and peaceful activism, I hope to make a difference in the lives of women and families and contribute to a culture that values and protects all human life.By doing so, I can make so many lives more fulfilling and meaningful, and leave a lasting legacy that will inspire future generations.Thank you for reading my essay and God bless.

My generation is filled with many young people in today's world who don't shy away from speaking about their opinions. As you can see on many social media platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube many young people aren't afraid to speak up about any social injustice issues they notice or start a trend to spread the word about socially unacceptable movements in today's world that they believe should stop.Growing up and being a teenager in this generation it has influenced me and made me notice many of the social injustice issues that there are in the world. Being a black American and a young woman there are so many social injustices and standards that I do see in today's world. As for being a black American I still have movements where I do face racism because I am a minority and there are times when stereotypical standards are assumed because of my background. This exactly why in my senior year of highschool I chose to take a class on financial independence and business entrepreneurship. To not only educate myself and to also educate other minorities as well who were never given the knowledge on financial independence. So, that way they can receive the opportunity to help them achieve that in their lives too.I have already agreed with my mom that once I do turn 18 years old I will open a bank account, savings account, and checking account while having a job to help support myself as a young woman.Everyday I'm still educating myself on financial literacy by reading the book I currently reading which is called "RICH DAD POOR DAD FOR TEENS : The Secrets about money that you don't learn about in school by Robert T. Kiyosaki" which is teaching me a lot about how to have the right mindset when it comes to handling finances. Another way that I plan way that I plan to help make a big difference in my community and the world.I believe that this knowledge like this is a very important piece of information that must be shared with people who need it the most in the world and that can make a big difference in many people's lives. If more people like me learn this knowledge and share it the rest of the world. Then that is one small way that people like me can make a change in the world we live in.This education has been held back by from so many minorities for too long.I believe that it's time for that to change by starting now and continuing in the future.Thank you for taking the time to read my essay and God bless.
Humanize LLC Gives In Honor of Shirley Kelley Scholarship
Unlike the other kids, I knew growing up. I didn't have two parents who had high-paying jobs. In fact, I didn't even have two parents. I only had one. My father was never around since I was nine years old. My mother struggled and did the best that she could to raise me and my little sisters all by herself at 28 years old. I am a minority and I come from a group where many black people in the black community do live in low-income houses and aren't financially wealthy. Since my father was never around my mother had to struggle almost every day to support me and my other two siblings. We lived in a family shelter from I was in middle school until my 11th year of high school. I'm so grateful that I and my family were blessed with the apartment that we have now. That was one of the biggest challenges that I and my family had to face. The challenge of trying to find housing and be able to find a place to live in with such a challenge for me. This was such a big challenge for my family because many people in black communities are not given the knowledge on how to buy a house for themselves and their families and how to open a savings account that can help them be financially stable. In America, the majority of the people who are not in poverty and low-income households are not minorities. Unfortunately, I am a minority that has come from a single-parent household and low-income household but, from this experience, I have learned many things. I prayed to God while working hard every single day to get accepted into the college that I will start after I graduate from my senior year of high school. I'm starting to learn that days of our lives that feel like the worst ones happen all the time and a lot of the time those are the things that we have no control over but, that doesn't mean that better days aren't ahead. If you keep moving forward during every tribulation and hardship that you face in your life without ever giving up because you know that better days are coming. Then it will make you a stronger person in the face of adversity. Thank you for taking the time to read my essay and God bless.

My family always believed that your education is important and that with a good education, you can do amazing things in this world. No matter the hardships you face even if you don't come from a prestigious family. My Grandfather was an educated man who overcame hardships that many Black Americans had to struggle through during the 1940's - 1950's just to get an education. He died in June of 2019 but, before he died he told me to get a good education and get a college degree because that your knowledge is something that no one in this world can take away from you. I've always kept his advice with me.I went to school from Pre-K up to high school and I prayed to God every single day to get accepted into the college that I will start after I graduate from my senior year of highschool. My biggest goal this year was to get into a college that was affordable, had the programs that I wanted to major in, and opened doors for my future to give me the best opportunities in my career that I knew I would only get from a college degree.Which is I why I am so grateful to be blessed to be a first generation college student in my family and to get the opportunity for a higher education that many of my family members who came before were not able to receive.I am a undergraduate who will be enrolled for the fall 2023 semester of this year.I am majoring in college to get a 4 year bachelor's degree in theater. When I was 5 years old my Grandfather would always sing with me and play his piano. Ever since I was 5 years old I've had a passion for music and acting.I feel like acting in musical theatre throughout my childhood has really taught me a lot about the world around me and how to express myself.Since I was a little girl my biggest dream has always been to a performer. To move people with my raw, powerful, and emotional performances. So,that as a performer I can use my body and emotions to bring the characters that I am portraying to life as if they really do exist.I do believe that acting is something that can be used to change the world by showing awareness and informing people all around the world about issues in the world that some people may be unaware of or bring smiles to people's faces even in the most difficult times. This is why I chose to major in theater in college.I know that usually some parents wouldn't support their child if they chose this route as a career because it's a risky route to take as career.Since the chances of trying to make a living in that career field is tough but, luckily I have a supportive mom who supports me in the career choice that I have chosen.which is why going to and getting accepted to college is such a big milestone in my life.Thank you for reading my essay and God bless.

Before I got where I am today.I had nothing, my family had nothing and we struggled everyday to get by.Getting donations from people who felt sympathy for me and my family always made my day. That's why I donate to those less fortunate than I am and I'm a member of many volununteriny clubs in my school. Being the daughter of a single mother and living in a low income household because my family couldn't afford to live in a big house. Living in a family shelter was better than being homeless even if it wasn't a fancy house. The donations that me and my family received out of the kindness from strangers brought tears of joy to my eyes because I never knew strangers could have the biggest hearts. Since 2015 I have volunteered at many local family shelters in brooklyn to donate over 100 clothes and shoes to families living in shelters.I have been donating money to my catholic church that I go to every sunday to help the church make more events that brings the community together so that we can all share our love for Jesus Christ in his temple.I have learned so much about recognizing needs and stepping up to help solve problems in my community by spreading awareness to others.I have taken these skills and poured them into my clubs at school that I volunteer at as a member of the community. My mother knows from experience how difficult it can be to find the perfect dress for your daughter when it's her time to shine at prom and graduation especially when dresses are expesive and not everyone has enough money to pay for it all .So, from that personal experience of my own I recently put my skills of recognizing needs in my community to use by donating clothes to my local donation center by donating things like old dresses to help support girls who are graduating and going to prom this year just like me but, can't afford to buy a super expensive dress to feel special on their special day. As a student I will incorporate these lessons in problem solving to each aspect of my life and my career by helping people in my community and giving back to those less fortunate than me.This scholarship will financially support me in college to help keep me on the road to getting my bachelor's degree.Thank you for taking the time to read my essay and God bless!

Me and my family lived in a family shelter from I was in middle school until my 11th year of highschool.I'm so grateful that me and my family were blessed with the apartment that we have now. That was one of the biggest challenges that me and my family had to face. Growing up my father was never around. When I had my first graduation ceremony, learned how to ride a bike, had my first dance recital, had my first play in school that I got the lead for ,went through puberty (and still going through it), and so many other life experiences that children go through in their childhood he was never there for me.He didn't even call me on the phone for 17 years years. As a child ,this is a hard experience to go through when you live in a single parent household because it makes you realize how different your family is compared others. My mother always was and still is the most important person in my life because she helped shaped me into the young woman that I am today. She was my mom, my friend, and the one who always kept me safe when she protected me through all of the hardest times that me and my siblings faced as a family. My mom has given me so much advice everytime I got sick and didn't know to do or some advice about a problem that I couldn't find the solution to.My mother has always been a Christian and we always go to church together. My mother once told me when she was 12 years old she would go to church every sunday and pray because she said that the Lord showed her the way when she no where else go.At a young age when my mom took me to church when I was 9 years old I always felt a sense of comfort and happiness being near the Lord.Me and my mother pray for protection, guidance, and blessings over our lives every Sunday when we go to church. In the bible it says in Mathew 7:7-8 "Ask and it shall be given to you;seek and ye shall find;knock and it shall be opened unto you:For every one that asketh recieveth;and he that seeketh.findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened." I prayed to God while working hard every single day to get accepted into the college that I will start after I graduate from my senior year of high school. There is nothing the Lord can't do! Thank you for taking the time to read my essay and God bless.

Growing up I was always an avid reader. When I was in elementary school I would always sit in the front row to be the closest to my teachers when they would read a book to the class. I had the highest reading level in the 3rd and 4th grades because I was constantly reading books like Amber Brown, Diary of a wimpy kid, and Goosebumps. When it came to reading I loved books from multiple different genres because I loved reading so much. As I grew older and time went by I became known in many of my classes as " the girl who is always reading a book" or "the girl who loves reading books all the time" and I didn't mind because that's the type of girl I was. I, of course, have many other hobbies as well like playing piano and drawing but, I loved reading the most . In elementary school and middle school, I was so intrigued and fascinated by the wonderful world of fantasy and adventure books. I found it so entertaining and cool to read books about characters who would go on these dangerous missions or travel to places that would only be real in a dream. I would go to the library and check out 3 or 4 books every month. This made my love for books grow even more and it fueled my curiosity to explore more books in genres I never read before. In high school from the 9th grade up to now, I began to immerse myself in books on topics about African American history, biographies, memoirs, the classics of literature, and novels. Now have read books like "Moby Dick "by Herman Melville, "And little Woman" by Louisa M. Alcott, "Huckle Berry Fin" by Mark Twain, "Lord of the Flies" by William Golding, and "The Great Gatsby" by F Scott Fitzgerald. The one book that had the most impact on me and transformed my life the most was the book that I read known as "Life Of Pi" by Yann Martel. The book "Life of Pi" by Yann Martel has transformed my life in so many ways because it opened my eyes and changed my perspective of how I view my life. It helped me to realize so many lessons that I needed to learn in my own life. When the main character Piscine Molitor Patel also known as Pi for short was a believer in many religions and others thought that he was peculiar for his decision. He stuck by his faith until the end. Which taught me to always stand by my own beliefs even if your standing alone. After facing a series of unfortunate incidents like losing all of his family members in a boat sinking tragedy, being stranded in the middle of the ocean on a lifeboat with wild animals for 227 days, and fighting the odds of surviving in a situation that is nearly impossible not to give up in. His situation has taught me that tomorrow isn't promised for anyone. If you have a good family that cares about you appreciate them every single day because they can never be replaced. Life is very complicated some days feel the best, some days feel the worst but, no matter what happens never stop living life or give up because of the obstacles you face along the way. Be strong and know that life gets better. Thank you for reading my essay and God bless.

I feel like acting in musical theatre throughout my childhood has really taught me a lot about the world around me and how to express myself.Since I was a little girl my biggest dream has always been to a performer.

Unlike the other kids I knew growing up.I didn't have two parents who had high paying jobs.In fact, I only had one.Since I was 9 years old my mother struggled and did the best she could to raise me and my little sister all by herself. One thing my mom has always told me was to get my education and manage my money because that is one of the biggest life skills you need to survive in this world. I am a minority and I come from a group where many people in the black community do live in low-income households and aren't financially wealthy. Many minorities are not given the knowledge on how to buy a house for thierselves or thier families, how to pay off a debt,or how to open a savings account that can help them be financially stable. In America, the majority of the people who aren't in the category of poverty and low- income households are not minorities. This just goes to show how the lack of financial education is holding many minorities back from the opportunity to reach financial independence in their own lives.

Ever since I was 5 years old I've had a passion for music and acting.Listening to my favorite musicians like Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson,Patti LaBelle, Aretha Franklin, Mahalia Jackson,Whitney Houston,Mariah Carey and Celine Dion.Growing up my favorite actors who inspired were the ones who looked like me and gave the best performances full of emotion in every production they took part in like Zendaya,Denzel Washington,Viola Davis,Angela Bassett,Chadwick Boseman,Lupita Nyong'o,Samuel Jackson,Keke Palmer,Eddie Murphy,James Earl Jones,John Whiterspoon,aChrisb Tucker and Cicely Tyson. It inspired me to join the choir at my church, enter many local talent shows, and even join many musicals in my school productions. Feminism to me as a young woman means that all women no matter thier race or age should be treated respectfully without having to deal the unreasonable standards that have been placed on women in today's world as normal or acceptable. My definition of feminism is not only a woman who uses her voice to speak up for the rights of women but, also uses her voice to speak up about important social issues for those who don't have a voice to speak for themselves. As for being a young woman I do notice in the media many high standards that are supposed to expected of woman like me.From the littlest things of how woman use things like makeup to bigger issues about like how attractive a woman is based off how her body looks.Which is why I am glad that I am a young woman in a generation where many people are no longer letting these socially unacceptable standards be acceptable anymore. There are so many feminist who I am inspired by but,the person who inspired me the most was Michelle Obama.Michelle Obama always was and still is one of the most inspirational people to me.It was so inspiring to have a woman who looked like me to speak up about issues that many black women do face. Her goal to educate others about social issues in the world did teach me many lessons that I needed to learn as young woman.Overall, as a young woman I have learned from her as my role model that even if you think your dream is too big and out of reach still go for it, use your voice to do good to help others, and you should be proud of who you are no matter what others opinions are about you.

Unlike the other kids, I knew growing up.I didn't have two parents who had high paying jobs.In fact, I only had one parent. My father was never around since I was 9 years old.My mother struggled and did the best she could to raise me and my little sister all by herself at 28 years old. My mother once told me when she was 12 years old she would go to church every sunday and pray because she said that the Lord showed her the way when she no where else go.At a young age when my mom took me to church when I was 9 years old I always felt a sense of comfort and happiness being near the Lord.Me and my mother pray for protection, guideness, and blessings over our lives every Sunday when we go to church. One thing that I have learned in my life is that a mother's love for their child is one of the strongest relationships in the world because a mother will do everything in her power to protect their children and give them all love that they need to let them know that they have someone who cares about them.I love my mom so much more than anything else in the world and I'm just so grateful that I have such a supportive mother who is always there for me.I also have to thank the lord Jesus Christ for blessing me with the amazing mother that I have in my life.Thank you for taking the time to read my essay and God bless.

I am a young black woman of Haitian and Jamaican descent. My father is from Haiti and my mother was born in Jamaica but, moved to America when she was 9 years old. My father was never around. So, my mother raised me and her siblings all by herself. She Struggled but, did the best she could. One thing my mother has always told me was to get my education and learn how to manage my money because that is one of the biggest life skills you need to survive in this world. I am a minority and I came from a group where many people in the black community do live in low-income households and aren't financially wealthy. Many people in the black community are not given the knowledge on how to buy a house for themselves or their families, how to pay off a debt, or how to open a savings account that can help them be financially stable. In America, the majority of the people who aren't in the category of poverty and low-income households are not minorities. This just goes to show how the lack of financial education is holding many minorities back from the opportunity to reach financial independence in their lives. This is exactly why in my senior year of high school I chose to take a class on financial independence and business entrepreneurship. To not only educate me on how to be financially stable but, to also educate other minorities as well who were never given the knowledge on financial independence. So, that way they can receive the opportunity to help them achieve that in their lives too. This is one way that I want to make a big difference in my community and the world. I believe that knowledge like this is a very important piece of information that must be shared with people who need it most in the world and can make a big difference in many people's lives. If more people like me learn this knowledge and share it with the rest of the world. Then that is one small way that people like me can make a change in the world we live in. This education has been held back by so many minorities for too long. I believe that it's time for that to change by starting now and continuing in the future. Thank you for taking the time to read my essay and God bless.
