Bio

My goals are to complete my architecture degree in hopes to one day build and plan a community that can house homeless teen moms and or moms with more than one child but are in need of housing. Poverty alleviation and education in one location would be my ideal opportunity to give back.

I am currently pursuing architecture at the University of Cincinnati. I plan to make a positive impact on the world through my chosen career by developing housing for homeless pregnant teenagers as a starting point or possibly building homes that they can own eventually and learn how to budget and self sustain. Since teens are not typically allowed to rent or live alone, the facility will offer homes for elderly as well. This is very important to me because I come from a family of 5 generations of teenage pregnancy. The hope is that when I become an architect, I can apply the skills that I have learned and teach occupants of the apartments about how to self sustain. It would also be amazing to have men involved in the building of the apartments. The partners of these women, could learn a skill or trade while proving a home for their family. The grandmothers who will house the unit, will serve as a liaison and a support system for the new moms. In Dayton where I live, there is a huge problem with housing right now. The homes are abandoned or the landlords are not fulfilling their duty to keep their properties running. There is something called Daybreak here, but it is very limited to a specific age and you can only be pregnant child to live there. If you come to the facilities with a child, they will turn you away. If there are thriving buildings that’s house an older generation with a newer generation, the idea is that the ecosystem comes full circle. Once those women begin to age, the young moms in the homes will learn empathy and responsibility. This will not only narrow the generational age gap, but will provide a real and viable support system. Poverty in Dayton, Ohio continues to be at the forefront of the city. Section 8 vouchers are available but there are not safe and accessible homes. This has been placed on my heart as I know I can do something to help. I have been given the passion to learn and draw and plan. As I proceed through my college journey, I meet new people with different experiences. This encourages me. All of the different cultures that Dayton has to offer make the need for safe and affordable housing. The main goal is to increase credit and learn how to be vessel of teaching for future generations.
