In the future, I envision my career evolving from an emergency room nurse to a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), ultimately opening a clinic that combines healthcare and rehabilitation services. My aspiration is to provide comprehensive care, particularly to marginalized communities, addressing not only their medical needs but also offering mental health support, addiction rehabilitation, and educational resources. This holistic approach will empower individuals to improve their overall well-being and break the cycle of disadvantage. Being Black to me means embodying resilience, strength, and a profound sense of community. It means navigating a world that often marginalizes us, yet rising above with grace and determination. My identity fuels my commitment to addressing health disparities and advocating for equity in healthcare. I have witnessed the impact of systemic racism on the health of my family and community, which drives my passion for creating a more just and compassionate healthcare system. Choosing to attend an HBCU was a deliberate decision to immerse myself in an environment where I am celebrated and understood. Howard University, in particular, offers a nurturing space where my cultural identity is affirmed, and my academic and professional aspirations are supported. The sense of community, shared experiences, and the legacy of excellence at Howard have provided me with the confidence and tools to pursue my goals. Attending an HBCU has allowed me to thrive academically while being part of a network that values and uplifts Black excellence, preparing me to make a meaningful impact in my career and beyond.

As a major setback to our attempts to guarantee that everyone has the ability to make decisions about their bodies without judgment, the recent overturning of Roe v. Wade caused heated debate on reproductive rights and healthcare access. As an advocate of healthcare and social equality, I am concerned about the decision since it threatens to limit access to critical reproductive healthcare treatments. Inadequate comprehensive action would increase vulnerability in marginalized populations by limiting their access to basic resources, demonstrating how critical it is to fight for policies that safeguard reproductive rights and provide equitable healthcare access for everyone. Recognizing the fact that overturning Roe v. Wade without addressing problems such as baby formula shortage and the need for an increased minimum wage to support families became a very important thing for me. I intend to be a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and start up a practice that not only offers healthcare services but also provides rehabilitation services for the underinsured and underprivileged community. My proposal focuses on the interrelation of these problems and emphasizes their impact on the development of a healthier and fairer society by tackling them in one direction. This dream is based on my firm conviction that health care should be regarded as a fundamental human right, and no one can be denied quality care based on their socio-economic status. Through the launch of a practice that combines health and rehabilitation services, I intend to give a platform for people who do not have access to a standard healthcare setting. This encompasses providing a broad spectrum of reproductive health services, including provision of safe and legal abortion for women who need it. I intend to add mental health services to supply psychological wellness to people as well as offering a safe place to stay and school after-school programs for holistic health support. In addition, I visualize my practice as a center from which people can get resources and assistance in tackling the fundamental aspects of their health problems, namely addiction, homelessness, and absence of education and jobs. I hope to fortify and promote a healthy society within my practice. In addition, I see my practice as an atmosphere where people can acquire the support they need in dealing with their health problems, such addiction, homelessness, and a lack of opportunity for education and work. My goal is to improve people's health and well-being and improve our communities' general health by addressing these underlying problems. My own experiences motivated me to work towards bringing about change in this area. I grew up in a place with few healthcare options, and I saw firsthand what systemic unfairness does to people's health and well-being. I saw how the lack of services for women's health, including abortion, was detrimental to women as it continued the cycle of poverty and inequality. As a future FNP, I want to work for change. I will work with groups and leaders in communities to make sure people know how important women's health is and push for policies that give more rights and access to healthcare for women. Simply put, the shift in Roe v. Wade highlights the urgency for immediate focus and effort. As an aspiring FNP, I will provide high-quality and inclusive care to all individuals, with a special emphasis on those in need. I will persist in advocating for policies that support women's rights and advocate for fair healthcare for all. My objective is to bring about positive changes in the health of individuals and communities.

Receiving this scholarship would be pivotal in my journey to become a family nurse practitioner and open a clinic for marginalized communities. As a junior pre-nursing major at Howard University, I've committed myself to gaining the skills needed to make a difference. However, financial constraints have often hindered my full immersion in studies and extracurriculars as I have just completed my additional year at the university to get into the competitive nursing school program. This scholarship would alleviate these burdens, allowing me to focus more on coursework, clinical experiences, and research crucial for my development. Additionally, it would support my participation in extracurriculars and community service, vital for a well-rounded skill set and networking. My involvement with the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW) Howard Section has deepened my understanding of the issues facing marginalized communities and strengthened my commitment to serving them. As a member, I've collaborated on various community service projects, including organizing health fairs, educational workshops, and mentorship programs. Furthermore, my experiences with Alternative Spring Break have exposed me to different communities and their unique challenges. I've volunteered to tutor 6th graders in math in Flint, Michigan, and teach high school students about college and help with Chemistry homework in New Orleans, Louisiana. These experiences have not only allowed me to contribute to the academic development of young students but also reinforced my passion for education and making a positive impact on young minds. Moreover, the scholarship would provide resources for certifications and training required for my desired profession. I aspire to offer comprehensive healthcare to underserved populations, including those who have been incarcerated, homeless, or in poverty. This support would enable me to pursue specialized training in mental health, addiction recovery, and community health, essential for addressing their unique needs. This scholarship would bring me closer to my goal of opening a clinic serving as a resource center and rehabilitation facility. Through this clinic, I aim to provide holistic healthcare services under one roof. This scholarship would not only financially support its establishment and maintenance but also empower me to make a tangible impact on underserved communities' health and well-being.
