My name is Zameriea Heath, and I plan on making a positive impact on the world by helping people overcome their challenges with social anxiety. I have personally experienced social anxiety, and I understand how difficult it can be to navigate life when you feel unseen or unheard. Growing up, I was often labeled as the “quiet kid,” which made it hard for me to fully express myself or connect with others. However, my journey took a positive turn when I was introduced to the world of fashion design and graphic design. From the moment I began exploring creativity through clothing and visual art, I fell in love with being a designer.
Design has given me a way to express who I am. It has helped me grow more confident and allowed me to step out of my comfort zone. Fashion gives me a way to tell my story and connect with others without even having to speak. This is a strength that I want to share with others, especially those who might be struggling with the same challenges I still face.
Attending college has always been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember. I believe that higher education will allow me to expand my skills, gain more knowledge about the industry I love, and prepare me to make a real difference. Outside of my passion for design, I’ve also had the privilege of working with children. I have three younger siblings, and I’ve helped care for each one of them throughout their lives. This experience has taught me patience, and responsibility.
I currently work with a Child Sponsorship organization where I shop for children’s clothing and other essential items for kids in foster homes. I find joy in knowing that even small acts like buying clothes can brighten a child’s day and make them feel valued. My experiences have shown me that children, especially those facing difficult circumstances, need role models who show them what’s possible. I grew up in a small, rough neighborhood, shootings were so common that my siblings and I couldn’t even play outside safely. Despite these struggles, I’ve always wanted to rise above my circumstances and create a better future for myself and others. I want to take this opportunity to show my siblings, my parents, and the children I’ve worked with that there is more to life than pain and struggle.
Earning this scholarship will not only support my college education, but it will also relieve the financial stress that comes with pursuing higher education. It would give me the chance to graduate without debt and fully focus on building a successful career. I am determined to use my education, my creativity, and my experiences to inspire change and make a lasting difference in the lives of others.
