Koehler Family Trades and Engineering Scholarship
When I got a call at midnight, I thought it was a scam, so I declined it. Then the same number called again, so I answered, and it was a call from the local jail saying my mom had been arrested for drinking and driving. That was the end of a part of a life I didn’t realize I loved so much. My escape from that part of my life was video games; they are an extremely important aspect of my life, and through them, I found out how much I love engineering, specifically in aerospace and spacecraft. Through this scholarship, I can pursue my dream of becoming an aerospace engineer, and I believe I can advance space travel and aerospace technology to the next level with this degree. Throughout this period of moving and living with my grandparents and being pretty much financially independent, I have learned a lot. I’ve learned how to manage my money and leave some to buy the things I want once in a while. I’ve learned when to spend and when to save my money. To do something besides saving money, I've been playing games, and that has really helped me find my interest in engineering and building things in the aerospace field. My family, specifically my grandfather, has helped me explore engineering. He helped me by helping me make a trebuchet when I was young, and that really blossomed my interest in it. This scholarship would help pay for my education because even with FAFSA help, I barely have enough money to cover it since I don’t have as much saved as I would want at this point. This scholarship would be an immense help in my journey to further my education in the aerospace field and my future career goals. Through video games and my family, I gained motivation for my education and my future career goals. Going to college is one of the most important things that I want to do. None of my family has completed a degree; my mother has never pushed me that I need to go to college, but I want to make her proud and make my family proud. My future goals are to get my bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. I plan to build my resume, participate in freshman-specific internships, and research more internships for my specific major. In my sophomore or/and junior year of college i plan to do major-specific internships to prepare for after-college career choices and for a stable job after college. I plan to move into an apartment with my sister in my sophomore year, so this scholarship would help pay for college, so I can have more money to further my education and for an apartment. In conclusion, this scholarship would help immensely in paying for my education and allowing me to have enough money to pay all my bills and have savings as well. To further my education and career goals with this scholarship would help me advance the space travel and spacecraft industry if I work hard enough, be active in the community, make connections through career fairs and events, and internships.
