The anime Oregairu was quite touching for me. The series follows an apathetic and cynical high-school student named Hachiman who feels that all the people he observes in high school are putting up a facade; he chooses to navigate his life alone because of this and relies on no one.
I hold the series in high regard because I learned with Hachiman that being too confident in your own way of thinking closes you off from other possibilities around you. The reason he struggles to form a connection with anyone is that he only desires relationships that are genuine and doesn't want to "play" friends with anyone (he reveals this to someone he ends up caring about). It isn't until he is forced to help others through a service club does he overcome the challenge of being vulnerable to others and finally finds the genuine relationships he longed for.
